Makes me think of "Jirel of Joiry" a character created by C.L. Moore, who was a a contemporary of Robert E. Howard. She was a warrior queen of a land called Joiry which was similar to medieval France. She defends her kingdom from invaders and has more than a few encounters with demons and sorcery. The original stories were serialized in Weird Tales magazine -- which also published Howard's Conan stories. She was one of the first female lead characters in the sword and sorcery genre. I have a copy of all the stories collected into one book that I have probably had for 15 - 20 years and still go back from time to time and re-read. Really looking forward to the new album. Your debut was totally kick ass.

Alarico I 370 (or 375) - 410 AD) was the first King of the Visigoths from 395-410, son (or paternal grandson) of chieftain Rothestes. Alaric is best known for his sack of Rome in 410, which marked a decisive event in the decline of the Roman Empire. Alarico I began his career under the Goth soldiers Gainas and later joined the Roman army. Alaric's first appearance was as the leader of a mixed band of Goths and allied peoples who invaded Thrace in 391 and were stopped by the half-Vandal Roman General Stilicho. In 394 he led a Gothic force of 20,000 that helped the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius defeat the Frankish usurper Arbogast at the Battle of Frigidus. Despite sacrificing around 10,000 of his men, Alaric received little recognition from the Emperor. Disappointed, he left the army and was elected reiks of the Visigoths in 395, and marched toward Constantinople until he was diverted by Roman forces. He then moved southward into Greece, where he sacked Piraeus (the port of Athens) and destroyed Corinth, Megara, Argos, and Sparta. Great perception! Boudicca was Celtic, from in what is now England. Visigoths were from what is now Western Germany. Both peoples were infamous for having most fearless and fearsome warriors. Both had Warrior Queens who caused the Roman Empire a LOT of headaches and um...they took no prisoners and, shall we say... cut through a LOT of roman soldiers like a hot knife through butter. Many hundreds of thousands of Roman's felt their blades. These warrior queens held the Roman's back and seriously impacted their capacity to expand for centuries. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." I am Celtic-Visigoth by birth. Mostly I am a pacifist, but don't get on my bad side. It won't end well for one of us, and it won't be me. 😉
