A shot opens up the drive , a drive opens up the shot.

Nice analysis! If you dont have a jumpshot the game gets much harder. But you get some space to often easily get to free throw distance with some continous left/right dribbles. I used to do some move like doncic dribble and go a little step left and right during the dribbles and test if opponent follows me correctly to finally attack that front foot when they are a little off with your own "wrong leg" ... i mean with that coaches tell you when you go left by a defender moving your right leg first between yourself and the defender as a shield to protect you and the ball. But this is much slower then going by with your "wrong leg" and using the right leg as a power push like in sprinting. Disadvantage is less stability. I always get by the defender like this and if they are lateral fast i get a foul cause of the lack of stability we both will crash.

You can't "leave your feet." You feet can leave the floor, though.

A good shot fake enhances and compliment a jump shot like a good changeup compliments a fastball.
