As a foreign resident doctor in Pennsylvania having arrived in USA for just four months, I came face to face with this unique people. Their simple way of life, rooted to nature and God shunning greed and personal agrandiosment, placing great value on family and community. The striking thing this beautiful documentary tells us that how Amish has accepted few modern additions to their lives bit by bits over the years, always keeping them at manageable levels and never allowing machines and progress to run away with peace and contentment of a well rooted community who knows how to live of the land simply and without any competition with fellow humans. There are lessons to be learnt here for all of us, with rampant social media use and advanced communication sure brings a lot of ease and convineance but collectively are we happier??. Technology and progress should always be there to help humans and not the other way round. At present this pace of progress has made the humans of this generation utter zombies who live to satisfy the demand of this faced paced existence rather than enrichment of their souls.

How do you reach the world when you're so aloof from it? They disobey God's command by being so inclusive. I pray not that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. Paul went all over the place, go into all the world and preach the gospel, ect. For all of their virtues, mortality, humility, they disobey Christ's cheif command when he left to preach the gospel to all nations, and will give an account as to why they neglected Jesus's words, in this regard, it is indeed a great sin they continually commit with this lifestyle of other worldliness.

@@timothydodenhoff1068 that's true... but.... how many of us spend much time reaching the lost? Most Christians don't obey that. I wouldn't judge the Amish on that.

They are living the real American dream! I think more people would like to live like them instead of modern world and its endless problems. No electric bills, not buying fuel, no phone bills, no insurance for cars, no maintainance for the cars, taxes for the cars, no internet, no air condition, no TV... We actually pay a huge price for our modern way of life compared to the Amish. We have much more expenses and we make more pollution, we live unhealthier and more we're more stressed in order to live or survive. Capitalism made us all slaves of the system.

Not necessarily. Many run diesel generators to power up disposable batteries. Those generators are much more polluting to the air than being on the efficient power grid and the battery wastage is much more than the typical household which is also not good.

It’s good to see them being able to live their way of life. I respect that. They take care of the land, it takes care of them. It makes me think of the Native Americans, who were force off their land, weren’t able to live their way of life or religion, took their hunting grounds from them. Their whole way of life was taken from them and are now living in poverty. So I’m happy for the Amish people that they are allowed to living their way, but you have greedy landowners who are looking at their land now. I say good luck w that. I feel for them. Old Native American proverb, “if you don’t take care of the land, it won’t take care of you”

Theres alot of atheism In Europe and America. I'm patiently waiting for religion to die so science can take over n we can evolve!!! But the preservation of the old world by amish is quite amazing and they have the right idea, living off the land, rely on themselves, dont use much technology, farm and do things with yout hands, promote hardworking people who take pride of heritage, family and good times. The amish are Welcoming and kind ppl, most would give u food on their table and give you friendly company. I need to live communally..I see the value now of living and working together and how our new technology is seemingly bringing us to be more connected..but really it is false connections that alienate is because we have the comfort and luxury to choose what is easiest and most entertaining to ego. I'm not Christian..but my heritage is Mennonite just like some are Ukranian or German etc..I didn't go to church etc. And I didn't think I would believe in Bible as the only authority on how to live...but like I said..I would love to live communally with spiritually minded people with a lot of similar lifestyle and philosophy approaches that the Amish is this film represents. Especially the value of family friends neiboirs etc, controlling your own pace and cadence of life, and staying connected to the natural world
