Joseph my name is Carlyn Bray, I am from Beebe, Arkansas. I worked at B-Mart Garden Center. I remember Your Mom & Dad and their beautiful baby girl. Your Mom was so sweet. She was quiet, and I wanted so badly to talk to her. Mr. Boyd (the owner)was helping your Dad. I didn't want to do anything that would go against the Amish ways. I was always paying attention to her baby girl, Ruth. Finally Your Mom spoke to me, she asked me my name & I asked her what her name was. I was just drawn to her. Being raised in a Christian family & the Baptist Church all of my life. I had people tell me to leave the Amish alone that they were a cult. I didn't believe that! Bro. Lester was so kind and Sister Rebecca was so sweet. Then one Saturday morning Your Mom came in & it was to say goodbye. She brought me a loaf of bread and said you all were moving. I felt like my world was falling apart. I always have thought of your Mom & Dad and wondered where you guys were. Then I couldn't believe it when I saw you on KZbin. I couldn't believe my eyes, I had finally found Your Mom and Dad again. It broke my heart when you all left Beebe. We became friends with another family Abraham & Elizabeth Yoder, they would come to our house. Bro. Yoder was not happy with things that were going on with their group. They knew Dad & Mom knew the Bible and Mom would answer their questions. Mom gave Bro. Yoder his first King James version of the Bible. He knew that if the elders of the Amish found out that they were coming to the house for Bible study they would get in trouble, so my Dad asked Bro. Yoder to help him rebuild our barn & make repairs on our house that a tornado had damaged. This gave them reason to be at our house. It makes me so happy to see you all again.

Ive run into trouble makers as well it seem we always settled our differences. But heres one rule i live by Proverbs 15:1 a soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievios word stir up anger. It takes a lot of patience with some people.....what i would like to see is the father and son ......they desert the very people that needed deliverance......if theres something ive learned in my 40 plus years is this at times when you think its the person talking its in fact the demon talking, don't get me wrong they can be good church going people but there one area of thier personalities affected by a demon.on the other hand. There content is well thought out and well played. The drama is what sells. I haven't check the dash board lately, at one time KZbin paid $1.00 per thousand views. As a born again Christian for 40yrs I was so touched by this beautiful history walk thru your parents lives. How precious is the love of our Lord. 1 of the many truths shared that resonated in my spirit was your mother's recounting of her conversation with a her sister about the sheep in the pen .... if the sheep are with the Shepherd ,they know His voice and follow Him, He meets their needs , it's only if the sheep don't have the Shepherd that they need fences to keep them from going astray. That is so powerful !!!!! Also when your sister Ruth shared her understanding of Christ at Calvary .... it wasn't the physical pain of the Cross that was the hardest for Him to endure , it was the spiritual separation from His Father that caused Him such anguish. I so would like the Christian church to return to teaching these deeply spiritual truths. There's nothing like the love of God to separate us from the evil of this world. THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SERIES , I have found these 1st two so deeply encouraging. Many Blessings to you and yours in Jesus name. 🙏💞🙏💞🙏💞🙏💞

Nobody forces her to have electricity or a car and to wear modern clothes. She says she loved that. She's a liar. They were right to kick her and her family out of the community. I grew up in New England. Not Amish or Mennonite but in a more mainstream Christian tradition. And yet it still tripped humans up. Many Christian religious traditions suppress people or seek to control or homogenize their participants into appearance, behavioral, and cultural affectation rules that implicitly or definitively derive an exegesis for salvation. Yet the words of Jesus as recorded as well as writings of the Apostle Paul and disciples John snd James paint us much more hopeful gospel story. God has never been approvingly impressed with the traditions of men. Jesus talked a gospel of inward transformation that launches outward expression while mankind continuously devises a gospel of outward appearances that too often leaves the inward man unchanged. Hearing this family’s journey refreshes me as I contemplate my own relationship with God and meditate on what renewing my mind and overcoming the obstacles of a man born into sin within myself in my faith. Your comment is also refreshing primarily because- as with many reflective of a past tradition- you identify the past context and yet explain it without malice. An art I haven’t fully developed.

I thought that Amish is a Christian denomination. No?
@patrickdewhurst33783 жыл бұрын
@@judigamroth7736 In theory, yes. In Practice, no. I think this video actually sums it up nicely. A Christian is a follower of Christ. Nothing else is needed, just simply a relationship with Christ. Christ clearly states that He is the only way. Groups like the Amish seek to add things to Christ. If the one you claim to follow says He is the Only way, and you add things, are you actually following Him and His teachings?

How cruel can people be?…it seems you have no clue…in my opinion id say, the Amish may be strict to the point of appearing rather cruel but perhaps that is because they have a very good clue as to how cruel the outside world can be. I’ve never been or met the Amish but as I age and learn Ive gained a strong and respectful understanding for these types of cults/cultures.
@patrickdewhurst33782 жыл бұрын
@@mickeyd7283 The Amish aren't cruel in the shunning of their family members. That is simply indoctrination. In fact, the 'shunners' are just as much victims as those they are shunning. They only shun because they in turn are threatened with the same treatment if they don't shun their family members. Therein lies the true cruelty, and problem, with most fringe 'cults/cultures.' They seek to control a population through fear, oppression, shared suffering, and adherence to a religion that the masses are never quite able to study with transparency. I have a respect for their culture as well, for the same reason the mom in this video says she loves the old way, and would be more conservative than most Amish- if only the Amish church didn't suppress and control it's people. This was the issue Martin Luther had with the Roman Catholic Church. You can have a conservative culture that values separation without controlling/suppressing your members through fear and the threat of ostracizing. All of the Amish I have met who have left and become Christians say this very thing. That's just my experience.

Agree with you, also best wishes for your 42nd birthday, I Miss Biggie PAC. In pop culture its the answer to all life's questions, 42 are also the Laws of Ma'at. (Egyptian goddess) Hope this is not too 'non-Christian'. Maat is also Dutch for the German Messen, in English measure or mete. There is so much to learn from different cultures. When his mom talks about loving the sound of the horse and buggy it reminded me of going to the bog to collect turf in Ireland..it was our neighbour who used to go..so as a very small child I would race to be up in time to be on the wall and he would lift me up with what seemed like a huge hand and he would bring a cushion for me..he didn't want me in pain..like I was the first time I went along ..but cushion or not I loved it..going on old country roads with the trees meeting over the top of the road..a simple time..

What a sweet memory..... those of us who have been uprooted from places we thought would be ours forever have a choice - become bitter, or bless what was beautiful and good in our heritage, put the rest under the blood, and move on.

Following Jesus is like going against the world. No matter how big or small that world is, we must stand up to it and stand strong on the Word of God. I appreciate your family story and the courage you have to choose the right path. If it means to leave all the families and friends behind, we must follow the Lord. Remember Deuteronomy 6:5.

I grew up with lots of Amish neighbors about an hour from where your mom grew up in Tomah and I knew they were strict. I was recently in Shipshewana for a horse show and was shocked by how liberal they were in comparison. I never realized how different each sect is and how hard it must be to keep up with the church’s demands.

My mom and dad left the amish back in the early 60's, i was about 2, i remember how we couldn't visit family. But my mom aways prayed. My mom was killed September 1, 2017, everyone of her brothers and sisters was at the calling hours. It floored me. I still have bad feelings with them. But they are my family.

It is the same everywhere: people want to control the faith and the other person with the traditions and laws of man, not of God. The true seeker of truth reaches the place of revelation where he finds out knowledge beyond what can be explained even. Such a grace this man through his devotion to the word of God could understand and receive salvation. He would not have needed to change on the outside had he not been repelled by his people for no reason really. We need to learn all of the time and grow in terms of knowledge of God. There is great resistance against that, as it was also at the time of Jesus. God is so much greater than we are, how can we assume to know all there is to know about him at any given time?

I was born and raised in Iowa City , Iowa , there were Amish and Mennonites . They shopped at the grocery store at the corner by my house Circs ( 1955 ) My daddy would take us to a near by amish community to have dinner on a special occasion . We were seated all together at a large table and our food was served like at home . Large bowl , of food , platters of meat , lots of homemade bread , butter , and milk to drink . .It was awesome , and I will always remember it . I live in Oklahoma now and we have amish here the bale hay for others .

Such a fascinating and heartwarming video. Thank you. To see your family find insight in the Bible that holds your family together, that keeps you so close to Jesus is lovely to hear. To see your family hold on to God when those around you question your motives, and faith... how hard that must have been. Your perseverance, and generally uplifting demeanour was so good to see. Again, thank you, and may God continue to bless you, as you all reach others for Christ. Andrew, Nottingham, England.

Thank you - This was great. Big Revelation of the mom " if you remove the Shepard from the sheep you need fences and rules" How true that is!!. Unfortunately, that happens in "Christian" churches, too. I remember when first God revealed me that the Salvation is by Grace though faith (Eph 2:8-9) - it was great and the light of the gospel turned on. But there is always followed with a challenge in the family /church that grew up in traditions of works and dress codes and a mix of Faith and Law. But by the grace of God many years later of talks and debates we walk together with Christ and by the Gospel of Grace. Nothing can match the message of the grace of God.
