Most people would refuse to drive in London even if they’re from this country
@MadCatPerson19776 жыл бұрын
Agreed on that one. For all it's faults, the transport in London and suburbs is pretty well connected. I am in my early forties and have never learnt to drive (but people still do and I am still the exception). It's only when people move out of the city that they have to really think about getting a car. Depending on where you are in London the traffic, pollution and travel time makes a car prohibitive.

Although I was born in England, I learned to drive in Australia and have mostly driven in and around Melbourne. When I went back on holiday in the 1970s, all my relatives in England and Wales warned me not to drive in London. So I took their advice, parked the car in a long-term garage and bought a "Red Rover" bus pass. However, once I had to go somewhere where there was no convenient public transport and decided to drive. What a pleasant surprise! The almost unfailing politeness and courtesy of British drivers in an urban setting made driving in London (or any other British city) a breeze. Try driving through Sydney in peak hours if you think London is bad. Where I found the Brits fell down was on the open road - they seemed to leave both their brains and manners at the motorway entrance. Aussies are he opposite.

We put chlorine in swimming pools in the UK, not in chicken.
@89Keith5 жыл бұрын
no the other reason we do it is due to having higher health and safety requirements that help ensure that meat doesnt get litterally covered in s**t during the butchering process, reducing the need for chlorine. "A report by the EU Scientific Committee on Veterinary Measures, for example, highlighted that the chemical cleaning treatment can be effective at removing food-borne pathogens depending on how it is used. The real fear is that heavily soiled birds may not be sufficiently disinfected, and that relying on chlorine washing could lead to poorer hygiene standards overall. EU officials believe the food industry should be continually improving hygiene standards in all steps of processing - the “farm to fork” principle, and so have banned chickens washed in chlorine as a deterrent to poor practices. But in the US there are no poultry welfare standards so the process is common. There have also been reports, including undercover video evidence by the Humane Society of the United States, of both inhumane and unsanitary practices being carried out within poultry houses due to a lack of animal welfare regulation."

And they have these damn tour groups of Teenage girls who literally travel in groups of 50-100 and sing group songs really loudly and generally just ruin everyone’s day. And I know their from Argentina because the will literally have the flags all over their shirts and carrying little ones or having them wrapped like blankets. Nikita Lomas i’m sure it does 😭😭😭 but not everyone eats it. a lot of people here eat pretty good food if i do say so myself. especially since america is so diverse, it’s sort of a melting pot of a lot of different people who, in turn make a lot of different foods!
@jupitersnoot49156 жыл бұрын
Takertantrum2000 America isn't the only diverse country. The rest of the world actually exists too and everyone else has just as much diversity as the US. Although with what I've seen coming out of the US in terms of how people seem to treat each other there, I dare say everyone else is doing a bit of a better job at being diverse. Diversity means nothing if everyone hates each other and constantly talks shit about everyone else. (Not saying that you do, but in general what I've seen myself coming from americans that I have met, and when I've been to america myself, it may be diverse, but that doesn't mean they all like it and get along) I just get fed up of this "we're better than all of you" patronizing snooty attitudes that americans have. (Again, not saying its you personally but in general.) I can't tell you how many times I've heard the fucking patronizing speach about the so called 'melting pot' or had someone ask me how it feels to be second class to america. Maybe if the general people of america pulled that shiny silver spoon out of their asses and shut the fuck up saying that america is so amazing, maybe the rest of the world wouldn't have the view that america is a pile of shit? Cause trust me, from the outside looking in, I would never cross that border again if it meant having to talk to or see any of the people. I hope you can understand how patronizing it is. It's probably unintentional, but I've heard that melting pot crap so much that all i hear now when someone says it to me is 'my country is better than yours because there are more people in it' it fucking annoys the shit out of me
@Takertantrum20006 жыл бұрын
Nikita Lomas i’m sorry you’ve had those experiences and honestly i’ve felt and witnessed the same thing from ignorant people over here. america has the potential to be an amazing country but people can’t seem to accept that america isn’t the only place on earth. a lot of that is the media we are given that makes it seem like america is bigger than it is (figuratively). so i definitely see where you’re coming from, and i agree to the fullest lol obviously like you said, not everyone is like that, but it’s enough to where america has become a very polarizing place to live, especially for someone like me. i live in washington, d.c. but purely from a culinary perspective, i’m not saying that we are the only country who has diverse people, so i apologize that i made it seem like i was saying it in that manner. i just think there’s this stereotype that all americans do is drink cheese from a can and eat fried twinkies. i’m not criticizing it tbh-if someone eats that, then as long as they’re happy i’m cool.

About driving: Don't drive in London, especially as a foreign tourist if you're not used to driving on the left. London traffic is far worse than in smaller towns and cities, there are many one-way roads, toll roads, roundabouts and traffic lights. And there's no law on jay-walking; pedestrians can and do cross anywhere they think is safe. In my experience, it's far quicker, cheaper and less frustrating to use the tube (subway). You can even rent a bike, and although I haven't personally tried that in London, I'm sure it would be faster than driving for many journeys. But by all means, driving is the best option for smaller cities and towns, and pretty much the only practical option for more rural destinations.

To an American I can completely understand why they find out food plain/bad. American’s almost always eat out partially due to the cost of ingredients in America making it cheaper to eat out. the food is full of sugar, fat and salt to make it taste better while in Britain we rarely eat out and only in ‘higher class’/fancy restaurants which a lot of tourists may not do. furthermore, Britain our ‘street food’ of Chinese & kebab shop etc is pretty awful, it Britain we mainly eat in, so they don’t experience the same British food we do. Pub food can be pretty hit or miss but once again we have a far ‘duller’ pallet than Americans so we use less salt and sugar, so all food taste way blander to Americans. EDIT: fixed some grammar

Just to add to the point you make about renting a car - don't drive in London. It's pointless. The traffic is horrendous, you can't park anywhere, and if you do manage to find a parking space, it's either a 3 hour maximum stay, or it's £30+. Only rent a car if you're staying outside the capital city. Roundabouts are easy - just get in the correct lane (left lane for left turns & over, right lane for right turns & around), give way (yield) to traffic on the roundabout & go when there's a gap.

Great review, actually. The most important tip you gave was to look right when you cross the street. I have literally saved two Canadian friends' lives in London. On both occasions, they were about to step out in front of a double decker bus. Of course, the good part is that they are now my slaves ... The only thing I would add about renting a car - you can rent an automatic car. Just tell them ahead of time. Rental companies are becoming better at that. Also - don't drive in London. The public transportation is great, congestion charges will hammer you, there is nowhere to park - the list is endless. But when you go out, you really need a car as public transport outside London is wholly undependable. And pricey.
@livingsea25166 жыл бұрын
Brilliant video as always! Just want to point out a few things: -if you’ve come to England before and you have a round £1 coin. Don’t bother bringing it as it is no longer legal tender, ensure you coin has 12 sides -people don’t particularly care if your late, they just prefer you not to, English people are constantly late.. a somewhat acceptable late is usually 5-15 minutes. -Don’t visit just London. I know you brought it up, but I can’t stress it enough. There are some beautiful parts of England. Some of my favs are Cornwall, and where I live, the Cotswolds. - People in England aren’t as energetic and enthusiastic as Americans, we like to keep ourselves to ourselves, and you need to respect that. Don’t be loud, loud mouthed, or disrespectful to a person, or you’ll probably be on the receiving end of a punch. Swearing in England is a lot more accepted, don’t do it around children, however, that is not acceptable. Also, we don’t count words such as damn as a swear word, however, swear words you don’t have include: bastard, wanker, uckers, sket. Those are not all, just a few. - finally, if you’re looking for something American (lucky charms for example) expect to pay double, or sometimes triple the price of normal cereal, like rice crispies. An additional note is that there are a lot of American things we don’t have (eg chipotle) however don’t be afraid to eat other places, they may surprise you! Once again brill video, and I hope this helps somebody!!

The reason we drive on the left is historical and ergonomic in its origins. When travelling by horseback before the existence of motor vehicles people passed by each other on the left as the majority of people were right handed and thus wore their swords on their left hip. By riding their horse to the left they were able to draw their sword from their left hip and bring it to bear in their right hand for defence against wood be attackers
@VideoDeadGaming6 жыл бұрын
Also, majority are right handed so it makes more sense to have the steering wheel in the right hand and the gears in the left, thus right hand drive cars, thus drive on the left

The poor reputation that British food has in the US is, in my opinion, the result of what returning US troops reported in 1945. During WW2 the British were subject to severe rationing - lives weren't risked importing unnecessary food items such as tropical fruit and vegetables - we lived on potatoes, cabbage, root crops and some imported stuff such as powdered egg and spam. Many people grew their own vegetables and kept chickens - meat was a luxury usually reserved for 'the man of the house.' In addition the amount of food served per portion was even smaller than those of today - we do not eat mounds of food. Rationing included everybody, from the King down - of course there was a black-market, but rationing ensured everybody got something to eat. Sweets (candy) and chocolate were amongst the last items to come off rationing in the 1950's. My mother told me that her sister came home shortly after sweets had come off ration and told my gran that she had been in shop where a woman had bought ten pounds* worth of sweets - gran said that couldn't be right, she must have been buying ten pound (weight) My aunt, said no mum, I saw her paying. *The average 'working wage' was somewhere between £3 and £5 per week at the time. It's been often claimed that the average Briton was healthier during the war years than we are now.

For anyone wondering why some shops in the UK are called "Ye olde" such as 7:30.. it's because back in Anglo Saxon era in England (5th until the 11th century) there was a letter in their alphabet which made the "Th" sound.... as time went by, the old Anglo Saxons letters were dropped and combined with the new language.. they combined the "th" letter into the present day letter "Y" (even though the letter Y already existed).. so that sign is really meant to say "The Olde"

Yet again another good 'DON'Ts' video. Though I will say, the 'calling people British' thing can be safer by calling people English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish, if you struggle with accents, just ask and NEVER assume. The term British technically applies to people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, though the only people that go by that term are the majority of English people. The Scottish, Welsh and Irish will never want to be called British and the same goes for me, I'm an Englishman and I get pissed off being called a Brit usually by American people. Also, don't drive whilst on the phone, don't be overly loud in a pub, don't get your fish and chips from whetherspoons, take a trip to the coast for the best fish and chips experience!

One of the points of the video is to crush some of the stereotypes of Britain that many Americans have. He talks about them in a positive light i.e. the food isn't bad, it doesn't rain all the time. Although I've never understood the food stereotype at all. We're lucky to have embraced cultures from all over the world so the food in Britain is as much Italian, American, Indian, Mexican, European etc as it is anything else. But as far as traditional British food goes, the only people who say the food is bad are those who have never actually tried fish and chips, roast dinners, pies or a full English breakfast (the best breakfast in the world, bar none).
