I noticed multiple times you refer to it as Kern. There's Kern county, Kern River, Kern Valley and Kernville. And the road you are taking is Kern Canyon or as we call it. The canyon. It's the drive to Bakersfield.

I lived in kernville, went to the little elementary school just across the bridge. 1967 1969.

Is the town of Kern the same as Whiskey Flats?

The name was changed when they moved the town from where the lake is now. They still have Whiskey Flat Days to celebrate the founding of the valley.

When they filled the lake they moved the town up river a little way. It was called whisky flat in the gold rush days then kernville.
