I have always had a good time in memphis. Have I been worried, of course, but I could say the same thing in parts of lots of towns :) it is a fun city and I honestly enjoy it every time i head down your way.

Two great gems about Memphis that you don't often hear about...the Civil Rights Museum (the site of the old Lorraine Motel, where Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated} and the Stax Museum. (For fans of Soul / R&B music.)

RobdaVegasMailman the civil rights museum is amazing. Wasn’t able to go to the stax museum. Next time I’m there though.

You can easily get shot trying to mugg the wrong person too, that's what some of the thugs seem to forget ha. I live about 40 minutes from memphis, I visit all the time. I love the history. I've walked threw some pretty sketch places with some sketchy people hanging in the shadows ha, but luckily never had an incident. I'm convinced that most only go for the easy targets, and your dress and body language speak volumes to that. Just stay aware of your surroundings and don't act intimidated, probably the best advice I could give.

I love this video because as I am filming this a bum comes up behind the camera and listens... then after i finish comes up and says, i heard you talking about beggers asking for money, and i ain't one of them... i just need some money to get a drink... at least he was honest :)

I've never had too much trouble parking downtown, but I will agree that the driving is terrible and you'll see plenty of crime if you live in the city.

Please do your research if coming to Memphis. That's especially true if you are visiting Graceland. You'll probably be ok at Guest House at Graceland, but the area isn't all that great. Remember that Elvis bought the house in 1957. A different time for that area.

The food in Memphis is unbelievable, but that's where it stops. Born and raised and most Memphians are on some dumb shiiii!!! Stay downtown and don't wander off into residential neighborhoods.

went to memphis and it was the shadiest place Ive been in the US. beale street was nice but the rest of the city feels unsafe. Nashville is only three hours away but its incredibly different. If you have to pick between the two... pick Nashville

Excellent video! I am a former visitor to Memphis and agree with most of his list of "like & dislikes". I visited Memphis in August of 1987, you read that correctly, and because it was the "10th Anniversary", my party could not find rooms any closer than "50 miles away" from Memphis, although they were "$22" per night. We didn't hear of one single incident of crime when we visited back then, but, times have changed apparently. The people of Memphis who we met were amazing: strangers offered us free transportation, the staff the Heartbreak Hotel restaurant were amazing: a meal set us back "$3.50". The heat was almost unbearable! However, plenty of water and air conditioned buildings took care of the heat for us. I think it is time to make a return trip to Elvis' hometown. Safe trip to all who are planning to go. Thanks for posting the video and reading my long comments.

I love your videos. I found your videos when I was looking for things on Italy. I found them very informative. Then I found this one. I live in Memphis!! :) I'll address a few things here. We do have some of the best BBQ in the South. We hold the World Championship BBQ Festival every year in May. We do have a lot of crime due to poverty. We have lots of poverty. The bums downtown are mostly harmless unless they are in a group or if you are too drunk. They will roll you for money. Love your vids!

I live in Memphis, next t ime you are looking for parking, try Gayoso ave. on the block it joins Danny Thomas Blvd. with. Also, I think that there should be six things to hate, there are VERY nice buildings in downtown area (infact all over) that have either become cheap auto body shops, or just abandoned. Especially about 3 blocks south of Beale, lot's of abandoned warehouses, homeless haven.

@PapiShampoooo8 жыл бұрын
In Memphis ( and the South typically) is not really efficient with public transit. You will save alot of time ,see alot more and feel more comfortable and safe if you rent a car. Memphis is not like NYC.

If You're thinking about going to Memphis just bypass those plans and go straight to Nashville Tennessee they have most everything Memphis has to offer all except Graceland but Nashville just seems like a better atmosphere and they have the Grand ole Opry and the public transit is much more efficient in Nashville. After you finish in Nashville float the Buffalo River in canoes that is freaking amazing stuff crazy horse is the best place to put in the river

I lived in Memphis for several years, and it's true there are parts that are pretty sketchy. It's also true that it's easy to accidentally find yourself in one of these areas with one wrong turn. That being said, Memphis is a good city made up of good people. The BBQ is absolutely a must-do and the good news if you're from outta town is that no matter where you go, it's gonna be good. EVERYONE has an opinion on "the BEST" and believe me, they're ALL correct. Music is Memphis' soul and between Elvis' Graceland and WC Handy's Beale St., this is one area in which great light shines brightly in an otherwise troubled town. The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel is excellent and should have made the list if only for the history of what took place there. (The assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) I don't know if it's still offered, but one of the most fascinating "Corporate Tours" I've ever taken was in the middle of the night at the FedEx Superhub at Memphis Int'l Airport. Watching up close the tens of thousands of identical envelopes and tan boxes all magically make their way to WHEREVER, on-time, no matter what, was just gobsmacking.

Good review but i was waiting to see some mugging or hear gun shots in the background. 😶 Whitehaven area has definitely gone down hill. Its dodgy now. Ppl have gotten attacked, robbed or killed near the kings house. Bring protection, and if your downtown, stay there. Stay away from some of the surrounding areas. Otherwise good experience.
