growing up in San Francisco back in the 1950's and 1960's, when we went to the movies to see " The Mole People" in 1963, they always had someone come on stage and do live magic tricks, then Cartoons before the movie. and that's how it was. the movie was 10 cents or 25 cents to get in. those popcorn boxes were square like that. we used to fold them and throw them ( sail them) toward the screen. also every movie had movie attendants with a flash light to show you to a seat. memories!

One of my teachers in junior high is from Sweden and said that back in the 70s, before the movie played, employees would pass out candy to the audience members. I read that in Germany, an employee would carry a box of ice cream products strapped around his it her waist after the previews were over and while the audience waits for the projectionist to change reels. Some older buildings still do that (I can't imagine it during the pandemic though). Italy would do that same thing with popcorn, ice cream, chips, etc. but most theaters in Italy nowadays sell them in the lobby like in the United States. Anyone from other countries remember an employee carrying a box of movie snacks in the auditorium?

It was grand growing up during the 1950s. The Good Lord was smiling on me when I was set down on Earth for that decade. The WWII Generation had survived the Great Depression and a World War (neither of which they caused) and were ready to enjoy life. Backyard BBQs, big comfy chrome encrusted powerful cars, Googie architecture with never ending neon lights. McDonald's and Mexican fast food joints, rock and roll, Schwinn bicycles, every flavor soft drink you could think of and of course drive in's and movie theaters with snack bars. They smoked everywhere, whenever they wanted and drank alcoholic beverages at the drop of a hat. They had been choked off from life's enjoyments and by golly this was their time. They earned it through blood, sweat and tears. Glad to have been in tow to partake of those wonderful years. Thank you for this marvelous visit to a happy past.

You wouldn't have seen "Let's All Go To The Lobby" at a drive-in because drive-ins didn't HAVE a lobby. They had a snack bar in a separate building. Of course, many of the delicious treats would have been the same, but theaters didn't sell sandwiches or burgers, for example. Just drive-ins.

Summers in Maine must be like 2 weeks long. We only get a couple of months of truly warm weather here in southern New England, which is not enough for someone like me who doesn't like the cold. So I can only imagine what it's like up in Maine. Beautiful state to visit, which I have done, but not warm enough for my liking. If I didn't have friends and family here, I'd probably move to where the temperatures average in the mid 70s.
