Good tips I have been to all of them and my favorites are Ostia Antica and Tivoli🥰

We rode our bikes to Ostia Antica from Rome, thinking we could take them inside, but they made us walk and lock the bikes up prior to entering. Kind of a bummer. I was so tired from riding there that I didn’t feel like walking all over, but it was still fun. I just didn’t see as much of Ostia Antica as I otherwise would have.

Ostia looks great for the first or last nights of a trip, being so close to Aeroporto di Roma - Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci. There are so many interesting towns close to Roma, thanks for sharing these ones with us.

Depending on the time of year Rome can be great to stay in but if you get the chance staying outside of Rome can be very special

Thanks for the info. Train trip to Frascati is wonderful, had a day trip and my wife always wants to stay out of Rome itself. Lake Nemi is where Nero had his infamous barge.

Great tips thanks. These towns look so quaint and pretty. Especially the lake areas. I know you mentioned trains, but I am just curious if there are buses that transport from town to town? Also my Italian is limited, is English understood as well?
@RozierRoma3 ай бұрын
The bus system in Rome area is pretty good and you can take the bus if you prefer, especially helpful in the Casteli Romani area. Once outside of Rome English is not as well spoken but usually still good enough without too much problem. You can always use a translator on your phone

@@RozierRoma thank you. I sort of expected the language barrier outside Rome. I don't think I would have an issue. Thanks for all info.😊

I enjoy your videos, but I'm going to offer a contrary opinion to this one! On my first visit to Rome, I booked late, so had a hotel on the outskirts of the city. This meant getting into Rome took 30 minutes by bus & Metro, so not dissimilar to one of the times you're suggesting for Ostia. This meant I had to be prepared for my days, as getting back to the hotel was quite a commitment! One evening, I returned to the hotel to freshen up for the evening & this left me with an hours travel commitment to get back into the city & "home" again afterwards! It got a bit much! So, I would advise you to think carefully about basing yourself in one of these outlying towns. Maybe, flip the idea & make the towns suitable places to visit from your base in Rome?
@RozierRoma3 ай бұрын
I agree with you, but I also feel sometimes it makes sense to stay outside depending on your situation. Sometimes staying in the city is just too expensive. Some people just need a more relaxed environment. Personally I would opt for Tivoli is the only real place. I would consider basing from and I would visit the other towns as day trips from Rome. If haven’t been to Rome multiple times, then I would consider basing in the Castelli Romani to explore that region, but not ideal for back-and-forth to Rome but doable.

@@RozierRoma I think there is a bus that connects the airport to Ostia. Not sure how handy it is though as I depart from FCO, not the other way around.

Why do you still call the one thousand years old Grottaferrata's abbey a "castle"? Seriously... That's one of the most important spots of the area, spiritually, historically and culturally.

@@RozierRoma You defenetly should. Have you ever entered it? The catholic monks are among the fiews in western Europe that still use the Byzantine rite. That's a fundamental bridge between West and East, they trace back to times prior the eastern scism of 1054.

Bad, bad, bad suggestion. If you want to get tired beyond belief, be uncomfortable, waste a lot of time, you can follow these tips. If you want to visit Rome you must stay in Rome. One can easily regret being original at all costs.
