A visit and dialogue with renowned classic Ferrari specialist and expert Patrick Ottis. He is one of the great names in classic Ferrari mechanical care. He operates out of Berkeley, CA. This video features a very rare (and valuable!) 1952 Ferrari 250MM coupe (one of the first 2 of a total of about 30, about half of which are Pininfarina coupes like this one), several Ferrari 330 GTCs, a 355, my 246GTS Dino and another, a Ferrari Daytona, a Ferrari 328, a little on a 1930s Alfa 6C. The MM is headed to Quail later this year.
The video starts with a shop walk, and then Patrick and Pebble Beach Chief Judge Emeritus Ed Gilbertson (and formerly the chief Ferrari Class Judge at Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance for 15 years) talk about what service is being performed on each car in Bay 1, the importance of DRIVING these cars, and battling "Over-Restoration". Patrick also explains California gas and how it can be fine so long as the cars are DRIVEN!
Part 2 will include the work Patrick is doing on the cars in Bay 2, in addition to some context on pre-war Alfa Romeos, and his son's racing activity.
We hope you enjoy this and consider subscribing- we are up to 52 subscribers as of this publishing and would really like to see that grow.
THANK YOU!

What an amazing and knowledgeable guy. Like an encyclopedia of Ferrari wisdom.

Patrick sounds like my kind of car guy and these people in the Ferrari club sound like they genuinely like to drive their cars. At least my stereotypical impression of a typical Ferrari owner is someone who likes to keep a garage queen and show it to the guests at the house. I like Patrick's philosophy about driving. Enzo Ferrari was supposed to be disdainful towards customers who had perfect cars. He felt like they should have some rock chips in them from driving. I've always remembered this story told me years ago about Ferry Porsche. He was supposedly visiting in America at the Porsche club at national Concours and this member had a very early 911 of which he was extremely proud. It had next to no miles and it looked better than it came off the factory Porsche was not impressed He smiled and simply said "my cars were meant to be driven" Nice video and changed my perception of Ferrari owners

Excellent video. Love the attitude about driving even invaluable historic Ferraris. I remember the Ottis' magnificent 750 Monza (ex-Phil Hill, ex-Carroll Shelby) racing at Laguna Seca and then seeing it on the lawn at Pebble. Amazing. Patrick's son Tazio also races the car in Europe at tracks like Goodwood. Thanks so much.

I love that locking gas cap on the 330. There's a guy in Sonoma California who makes keys for them. The company is called O.D.D. Parts. He also restores turn signal indicators and shift knobs for the Ferrari. Ask for Jim

I enjoyed the video very much. That 275 is a GTB, not a GTB4. The "4" is for four camshafts, not 4 valves per cylinder (the 4V didn't come along until later). Thus, this car has one camshaft per bank not 2 per bank. The 275 GTB4 cars trade for about 2X the GTB. steve meltzer

Alloy bodied 275??? I know Clint Eastwood had two from that era. No one can say where they are. Some serious Ferrari stock there. Is the Dino considered a Ferrari???? Daytona was exceptional.
