Welcome back to an eagerly awaited update on the Ferrari Dino 246 GT! After a considerable amount of time in the works, this beloved classic has undergone a remarkable transformation. Join us as we unveil the painstaking respray journey with the help of the very talented Ryan from Cheshire Prestige Paintworks.
The Dino's journey began at the paint shop, where Ryan meticulously stripped away the old layers, revealing the car's true condition. The discovery of some shockingly deteriorated panels led to their replacement, ensuring the longevity of this automotive gem. But that's not all - Ryan's dedication shines as he makes thoughtful improvements that promise to prolong the car's life for years to come.
As the resprayed Dino emerges, its captivating beauty takes centre stage. Iain and Ryan take you on a detailed tour, sharing insights into the intricate work that's breathed new life into this classic. Prepare to be amazed by the stunning results, achieved through tireless effort and a commitment to excellence.
But the journey doesn't end there. Iain delves deep into the V6 engine, unraveling the intricate work completed within. It's a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that defines our restoration process.
Whether you're a Dino enthusiast, a lover of automotive craftsmanship, or simply curious about the world of classic car restoration, this video is a must-watch. Join us as we celebrate the artistry, dedication, and transformation of the Ferrari Dino 246 GT.

Dino had muscular dystrophy and died at 24, Enzo said most sons are inspired by their fathers but Enzo was inspired by his son. The v6 296 gtb is a the spiritual successor to this car and with that engine architecture they won 24 lemans and 24 Nurburgring among other accolades, also the mid engine Ferrari was born with this Dino 246, really a special car

I first fell in love with the Dino, when Tony Curtis rocked up in one in the very first episode of "The Persuaders" and I'm still in love with it, how can you not be. It's so Wonderful to see Master Craft's men keeping these works of art alive and well for many more years to come. Bellissimo!

It must be exciting for the owner to know everything is being done right and better than new. What a Car is going to roll out the garage when it’s finished. When craftsmen do their stuff, if only everyone took such pride in the work they do.

I'm definitely a purist and love a stock car but extra panels, drain holes, modifications that preserve the craftsmanship are 100% ok for me. especially when you're preserving something that wasn't preserved by the factory either by design or cost cutting. this is going to be the best dino on the planet

Describing Aft of the rear wheel was the most cumbersome explanation I have ever heard. Simply state the Inner Fender support is a sheet metal sandwich that traps moisture. I was surprised Tyrrell did not paint that inner panel also since they know it is a water trap. The aftermarket vertical piece Tyrrell added is truly questionable looking and too blatant IMHO

Hello Iain . I was using the same flatting system as Ryan 30 years ago , except l started off with 800 grit but always used a D.A . When l first started flatting 2 pack in the late 1970's the very fine grits ie 2000 + were not available so it was 1500 by hand ! And the only polishing compounds were not designed for 2 pack paints . So you had to let the paint harden off for at least 2 days as using the compounds beforehand would actually "scrub off" the top coats ! I was one of the first painters to adapt to 2 pack materials . The first car l ever painted in 2 pack was a mini moke that l restored for l believe , BOB wartime ace ,Johnny Johnson who lived in Andorra in 1974 ....ish ! And your claim of the Porsche 911 being ,more robust than the Dino ? I can assure you that the 7 year old 911 T l rebuilt in 1977 was equal and even worse than your Dino ! And back then replacement panels were unobtainable (or too expensive !) It was also the first car l repainted in Glasurit 54 line , in my opinion the best paint ever available to the trade then or since. As always lain , so enjoy your bulletins . Thankyou

Out here in the Colonies, Sydney, we did’t get to see much exotica. Our family doctor had a Red Dino. It was from then that I became a student of car design and have remained enthralled ever since. I was about 11, 1971, I think. It was only recently that I replaced the long standing personal favourite shape of the Dino with the Muira. I stayed loyal for about 50 years. Did you have to sit them side by side to re-invigorate my internal wrangling ? Both gorgeous and the low shots of the front of the Dino sends the mind back to those early days ogling this low hanging sensuous form. Great post Iain . I knew I would love this episode as soon as I read the Resurrecting Beauty title. Looking forward to seeing it complete, creating such craftsmanship must be truly satisfying, your legacy will roll on for some time. Salute & thankyou.

Seing that bare Dino body in that beautiful paint really just enhances what a thing of extreme beauty that car is. Best Pals Dad had one of these back in the 80's - still has it too. He won it playing cards as it happens. Me & the pal used take it out pretty often. If we parked it anywhere, when we came back, there would be people stood around it ooh-ing & aaahing. Not one outing would go by without someone asking to buy it - that sort of car. His Dad treated it like you would a Mondeo - it got used. We'd go shooting in it with the boot loaded up for pigeon, it got drivven across fields, fired up at 5am to go to work. Truth being, it was a right moody git to drive - I know, I drove it a lot. It hated traffic - the plugs would foul & it would start misfiring - it only liked being revved. It hated low revs with a passion. The driving position is absolutely awful - you're janked sideways, cramped in, the pedals are too close together, the gearshift is narky as hell, if you actually try hammer it, it'll kill you as grip is best described as "Lightswitch" style - I.E on & off - plus the clutch, despite being new (changed a lot) was mercilessly sharp. It loved getting new clutches... But - it was/is an achingly beautiful car - absolutely stunning to look at - (just not if you're in it on the North Circular Road in heavy traffic & it's spluttering, choking on its own fuel & you're trying not to stall it because the pedals were designed for someone who doesn't have feet and if you do rev it like it wants, it will slew off sideways into the barriers... but semantics. Epic car with epic memories - we did have some serious fun in it cruising down Hampstead High Street as 2 17 year olds with everyone staring. Trying hard to look as cool as the car - but also always terrified of it because it loved biting you on your face if you didn't pay it full attention. :-) I now have an MR2 as it is a close to the driving experience as I can get without the mechanical fruufery required to keep it running. I'm also a mechanic - I blame the Dino for that - as was the pals Dad who owned it.

Quite illuminating and shocking at the same time actually in the sense of how they already were in a state of corrosion internally in the showroom. My goodness. Something I've not realised as of yet. Most flabbergasting. These Dinos are beautifully lovely crafted but really tiny inside. However, they do stand out in their own particular distinctive way and genuinely precede the 308; an icon as well in their own right I should say. Thank you both again gentlemen for sharing your exquisite passion and update ❤

I love seeing people who do quality work being showcased and that is an amazing job. Obviously, someone earlier in that car's life had done some hack repair work, but I would be surprised if the owner didn't pay them good money for what he thought would be quality work. Of course, you can't tell it's garbage until quite a while later. If you pay low prices and get low quality that's fine and expected, but while the opposite should be true, it too often isn't.

It may have been a competitor for the 911 but it beat it in the beauty contest hands down. I had no idea, how neet and practical that engine and tramsmittion layout was. As you say so similar to the Mini A Series layout of the late 1950s!!! I love the Dinos, and that fabulous, V6 that ended up in the Lancia Stratos. Why do we act with such awe when we find craftsmen who do the job properly? Because the industry is plagued with the normality of bodged jobs and rip off merchants. Can not wait to see it as it's rebuilt.

As a former owner of one of those Minis I can say that the engine?gearbox layout was precarious if the bottom end had trouble. Mine had the crankshaft develop a crack part way across one of the throws and luckily I tore it down and replaced the crank before it broke completely. Still shudder to think of what all those metal parts would have done had they fallen into the gears.

The sprayed-oil cam lube issue also affected the Honda SOHC750 engines. They'd snap near the middle, because the oil was sprayed into the head space from the sides, with cups to catch the oil, and if it was too thick, or too thin, or the spray apertures were clogged, there would be no oil to the inner bearings and they'd seize.
