Visit to Queni Koi - Closer look at some Marudo Showa and a purchase?

I'm completely new to koi, but am addicted to watching all the vids. Love the breakdown of what makes a good quality fish, as I found that alot I've watched will say its lovely but not say what makes it good. For me as a complete newbie, an awesome watch xx

Remember though you ultimately you need to like it weather or not its a good representation of its variety lol Young Showa need some imagination as Sumi (black) can just pop up unexpectedly and cover good or bad Beni (red) If you like it thats all that matters, unless youre showing, thats a whole another ball game lol. @@koidiaries loving the videos, and definitely agree that you've gotta ultimately like the colouring and markation of what you're buying. I'm absolutely in love with the metallic base markings with a little bit of colour too, (kujaku?) they always look like they're wearing a suit of armour or been spray painted! I think I live about 45 minutes away from the shop you went to, so when everything is 'back to normal' I may just have to take a trip out and have a look xx

I bought a small showa from queni last year and it's turning into a lovely fish, also use their food and have hardly any fish waste now. Nice video as always

A great video again, the showa you have to get, the dream pond you where looking at, will come in time, few years down the road, but you will have to do a new pond and filtration, I know will cost a LOT of money, you have got many years until that comes, your still a young man, so enjoy the pond and fish you have, and the big expensive stuff will come in time, keep up the good work and try to keep the pond as healthy as you can for your wonderful koi.

Didn't really know whether you're there just for a visit or to purchase a new koi. Saw that Ki Matsuba in the beginning of the video and I was drooling over it. In the end - Yes! It's the one you purchased. Congratulations and a happy ending at that.

Thanks, i knew which one just from photos i wanted but just needed to make sure so a visit was in order and to check the lighter one as why not, it was cheaper so i needed to see with my eyes why. Settled in great heres to hopefully a stonking fish!

Dangerous going to a koi dealership it's a very expensive but rewarding a stunning hobby. What's next with your pond. I've had a thought about your lid for the filter bay. I'm going use gas struts to open it I think i-ll make it out of sheet metal and pipe

I think im going to do a temporary fix to then a possible mega filter bay overhaul, like crazy mental overhaul!! Yeah i did price some custom gas struts originally what i buit it but went with a hinge and pieve of wood to hold it up lol Yours sound quite heavy duty!

Yeah same with all fish it's hard to get that in, that's why I mentioned the 100cm+ Chagoi it really is a beast!

Haha thats what i liked about it pity the Beni was so stretched other wise i would have had it, im sure it will tighten up at some point but like we said on vid its the risk witht hat one. Better Beni more ££££££

Hi Andrew. Cracking bowl of showa’s there mate. I rather liked the one that you ruled out, when you had just the three in the bowl. I know Mike said it was a little untidy, but the sumi is strong. We were at QK yesterday and I saw that 87cm Momataro Showa and she’s absolutely stunning. I can’t get over how a such a large koi travels all that way so well. I NEED to win the lotto!!!!

For me the sumi was good that's what drew my eye in, more idea of what it will turn out like, saying the Benin is untidy is probably a bit harsh these are young fish after all and it could get covered by some sumi, but who knows that's the gamble you make I suppose. Yeah that Showa is lovely a lotto win here would be most helpful too lol

Yeh that drew me in first as the Sumi was up it deffo catches your eye, just the Beni wasnt quite right for me, and if in any doubt then its a no, may see it in the futire and kick myself but thats koi i suppose lol you win sometimes you lose others

Great video. Good to see queni koi. I would have gone for the kindai. In my opinion beni is most important on a showa as it always fades if its weak, where as sumi gets better with age. I just had a 2 koi delivered today from Gatwick Koi a nice 47cm kujaku and a 40cm gin chag. Like you I havent been spending money going out, so thought I would treat myself. I always enjoy your videos. Keep them coming. Steve.

Hmmmm maybe, As i said in video i know its a Showa so it should be about the Sumi but the BEni was a tad weak for me, but, water is hot and theyre growing quick so may come good i suupose lol I have no vision for these things!

Pretty sure my mind was in the same place as yours with those Showa and I'd have put them back too. Best body and skin didn't have a pretty pattern to my eyes at least, and best patterns had above average bodies but weak Beni. Think I'd wait until the right one comes along.

No QT facilities at my house! It will be fine, the fish would of had an extensive QT period at Queni, the biggest fear would be parasites but not much i can do other than observe and treat if needed.

Pond holding 19c, fish are so much happier its changed everything last week/2 weeks or so already. I cant feed enough at the mo, going to be an expensive year i feel!!! HAHA

Yeah, so much so its now sold to a mate the day after lol The Beni on it was amazing! Im a sucker for a head pattern more so on Showa, my head was saying that one my heart was saying other, hence leaving them rather than rush into it, plus id commited on the Matsuba. Hey ho theyll be others!

I think better showa will come along but is always a gamble buying tosai but a nisai showa (yes more money) is less of a gamble and more to enjoy. My advice would be, put that £500 away and add to it in a few months or so find a better example a safer bet. Great video as always Andy 👍

Just love Showas. Got a couple my self. One that’s turning into something I can’t describe - a bit of a mess to be honest. The other I had from a couple of months old. Lots of sumi but poor beni. Anyway, you missed your Best Buy - go get the Showa. The pressure is on 👍

That’s always the worry with go sanke especially Showa you never know how there going to turn out !! And if you want a mature one that’s almost finished then it’s top dollar 💵 nice ogon though with the heat it should grow well 👍🏻

I loved the showa that had the slight blemish on the sumi had a tancho spot , i messaged queeni koi for price on filter iv got 1300 quid burning hole in my pocket thanks to tax man and need new filter
