I like old people . This guy is a real gem of a guy letting you walk with him threw his Junk yard . I bet he can tell you some stories . When I was a kid about 50 years ago everyone was just like him . They didn't mind us to look threw their junk . Mostly they wanted you to buy something and they didn't ask for an arm and a leg for the stuff . When i was a kid I went with my dad to the junk yard and found a old toy truck once in a old car and ask if I can buy it . The man laughed about it and looked at my dad then turned to me saying you look like a good little boy ! You can have it and smiled at me with his missing teeth . I just smiled back and said thank you Sr . One of the few good days I had back when I was a kid . I still have that little truck with the wooden wheels .

Why do that when it can sit for another 50 years and just rot into the ground? That's these peoples' logic. Turn down a ton of money to have stuff sit and never do anything with it in their lifetime.

I suspect the old yellow tanker might have been an old aircraft refuelling tanker from an airport, it looked like a pretty low profile set-up which are used for that to avoid the risk of making contact with wings and other parts of the aircraft when they are working in close proximity to them...

The wrecked and part-dismantled Land-Rover on the trailer isn't from 1978. It has disc front brakes and coil springs so it's a Land-Rover 90 or 110 from 1983 onward, the vehicle that eventually became the Land-Rover Defender. The Land-Rovers that came before them, the "Series" Land-Rovers as they're known, had leaf springs and drum brakes all round, even the factory Stage 1 V8s that were introduced in 1979 towards the end of Series III production, partly as a development tool for the 90 and 110. The 90 and 110 used a development of the coil spring suspension system that debuted in 1970 with the original Range-Rover. These look like British military vehicles so will have the 2.5 litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engines, though some of the early ones had a 2.5 4-cylinder petrol (British armed forces changed from petrol to diesel for front-line vehicles in the mid-'80s though a lot of military ambulances and Land-Rover-based armoured vehicles such as the infamous "snatch" Land-Rover remained with petrol V8 power until very recently and the last of these are currently being phased out) and later vehicles eventually got the turbo diesel 200TDi. They probably reached the end of their service with British regiments conducting winter training and exercises with the Canadian military as quite a few did due to the extremely harsh conditions The sand camouflage paint over the top of the green drab indicates that these vehicles saw service in Africa or the Middle East, maybe during the Gulf War...

Interesting they're in desert colours - ex Gulf War ones maybe. Goodness knows how they ended up in Canada...
@gosportjamie6 жыл бұрын
+Simon Welch They were probably attached to units that had trained and exercised with Canadian troops in winter conditions. The British army has postings in desert areas so it's not unusual to see ex-military Landies with desert camo paint. Sometimes they're not always that quick at changing out the paint, especially on vehicles that are getting to the end of their service life. I don't think that paint is from the Gulf War as there's no visible sign of the black chevrons they were marked with but that's no guarantee of anything, it could just be that that part of the paint has weathered off...

......man, for such a young guy you sure have had your share of cars. Between this video and the others you have on this channel you rattle off a rather substantial list of all the different cars you've owned over the years. My father was in the car business so I grew up spending a lot of time in his dealerships investigating the showrooms, shop etc.....and also spent time with him when he'd go to the car shows each year, I'd collect all the colour brochures and use them as toys cars. What fun, I could have all the latest brands of cars to play with. I've always loved cars, all kinds.......not just the sporty popular ones either, I appreciated all types of cars and over the years I managed to buy and sell around 35 or so......just for the sake of enjoying them :) Looking back now I think there was probably better ways of managing my money but I loved driving and enjoying all the different types that I bought, some automatics but a lot of standard transmission ones as well. I'd eventually grow tired of them and move on to another one that caught my eye, never making any money on them of course. Ah, the crazy things we do in our youth. Unfortunately, the cars of today have lost their unique appeal to them, they all tend to look alike. They've lost their individuality, it's hard to tell one make from another. There was a time when a Mercedes looked like a Mercedes but nowadays everything looks so vanilla. You'll have to excuse me my age is showing. :)

@gosportjamie6 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. I think most of them used a proprietary automatic transmission, though earlier ones probably had manuals. Usually they have a very complete data tag on them which would identify what parts this one had which would make fixing this one a lot easier...
@jeep20036 жыл бұрын
intresting that it had the 7 slot grille and perkins diesel that jeeps used so its probobly amc built? I know they made the cj-10 tugs but never seen one like that
@gosportjamie6 жыл бұрын
+jeep2003 I'm not sure who built them but I'm reasonably sure it was an independent specialist manufacturer rather than one of the Detroit big leaguers. The similarity in the grille style probably just comes down to it being an easy style to produce for a relatively small volume manufacturer rather than any relationship to a particular large manufacturer. Perkins supplied engines to a lot of manufacturers and at one point just about every heavy truck manufacturer in the world had a Perkins engine option somewhere in their range...
@christopherlovelock91046 жыл бұрын
gosportjamie. .. Perkins and Gardner were the 2 biggest engine producers in the UK who didn't build a vehicle of their own. All went into other makes, with Perkins concentrating on the 'light to mid-range' vehicles, whilst Gardner went for the 'heavier' end of the market (buses and the heavy haulage trucks up to around 40 tons). Above that and you were looking at CAT, Cummins, or Rolls Royce power usually. As for Land Rovers most of the British Forces ones were Petrol engined although a few had Land Rovers own diesel engine in them.

The land rovers where used at BATUS British army traing unis Suffield near Medicine Hat. I was stationed their for four months . The one with the red roof was a range safety land rover. Their not 1970 but built in the mid to late 80s being 110 and 90 inch powered by a 2.5 n/a desiel engine .

BATUS wasn't really that type of thing . But being 1300 square mikes it was bigger than we had in the U.K. I did see them in action but my range safety vehicle was a 2003 GMC sierra . And thats what i think is parked behind the land rover with the red roof. The M.O.D. hired them from a local GMC dealership in medhat . Loved that truck it was fast as fook and loved Canada would love to get back there sometime .

.........I think of all the cars out there my dream car has always been a Mercedes 280 or 380SL, silver with the navy interior. I've always fantasized about driving it down the Oregon/California coast. I can only imagine what it would cruise like. I came close to buying one but very expensive to maintain, not to mention fuelish!! :) Actually, I'm too tall to really drive one as the seats don't go back far enough to accommodate me without my head extending above the windscreen. Especially since I'm retired it wouldn't have made sense to buy it and then have to put out what it costs in maintaining it. You have to have money to own them, just no getting around it and I'm not sure it's practical as a daily driver either. Most people I've contacted about them own them as a weekend fun car and in warmer climates like Florida and California. Oh, but I came so close in throwing caution to the wind just to own one. I think back now and realize how impractical it would've been. Not to be crude but you sound as though you have more to spend on vehicles than I, what would be your perfect car to own.......or have you already owned it?! :)

This is really sad to me.. There are so many cars there that need to be crushed and taken out of the way so the good ones have space and aren't damaged. When you have buildings falling down that are full of cat engines, something is terribly wrong. I've seen it at a lot of junkyards like this that neglect infrastructure and are eventually over run with bulky scrap like huge buses that have no real value. At a certain point, you need to stop accumulating, stop holding on to every single dime, take a loss if necessary, liquidate what should be shredded and find buyers for what is left. When he walked right past that Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe with T tops without saying a word.. :(

Where is this place, live the crew cabs fords. There really expensive still, they go for $10,000 still and the old 70s ford in there that was crew cab is something I would love to have, live restoring. I ain't much for new bc the old had character and something special about them, easy to fix too. Now newer trucks are all computer and the average person cant just fix it. Still tho, would love to have a crew cab Ford out of there with a 7.3 diesel, a tried and true motor, the 6.0, 6.4 were horrible motors and killed fords sales. Then the 6.7 which when u deleted egr and something else it takes care of the problems and they say is better then the 7.3 after deleted

Curiosity Incorporated , darn, I am a old vehicle's lover. Sadest thing to see old stuff rot, always see what something could be no matter the condition it's in. My dad always said it was a bad thing bc I'd be broke if I bought all cars and rebuilt them. Was a guy down the road who had 150 barracudas, chargers, mustang's, chevelle, novas, and more and he crushed them all when people asked to buy them. They were people alot from California paying 15k per car and he turned it down. Got irritated and crushed them all😢saddest thing.

Look's like the red white and blue Mack truck, had it's bulldog hood ornament removed or stolen?

That yard looks like it needs a couple of car clubs to sort out the rebuildable cars, pull common parts off the others, and prep for selling back into the community before they get scrapped. Similarly for the Rovers, military, etc. I saw some vehicles in there that I'd love to pull some parts from.

Good grief. Nice video, but you walked by one of the most interesting cars there and you didn't even realize it! LOL at about 8:44 on the timer, there was a 1974 Chevy Biscayne which could have been a police car. It was on the left of the screen in a pile. It was ruined, but a very interesting car nonetheless.
