What a great statue of Johnny ! Holding his ever present Mosrite Ventures model guitar !
@101Volts Жыл бұрын
Mosrite Ventures II, really. Now known as a "Ventures II Slab Body*" or a "Mark II" if you're talking about reissues. But it was never a "Mark II" originally, so far as I can tell. * The "Slab Body" name is fan-made, but it's to prevent confusion. I think it's a bit lengthy to say _why_ here, but in short: different model had same "the Ventures II model" name at first, then it got re-named as "the Ventures Mark V model." Johnny's Ventures II Slab was discontinued quickly, he chose a very rare model as his guitar. Only up to 150 were made originally, but maybe fewer were.

A fitting tribute to a man that inspired many young men like myself to pick up the axe and blast the strings off it with a torrent of downstrokes. Johnnys playing was so remarkable and solid that he would often be accused of having a Hammond Organ backing him, but it was just the colors that he summoned from the fret board. Truly a legendary player and a testament to the idea that the tone comes from your hands.

Nice and respectful vid on iconic artists like DD and Johnny. R.I.P. at rockaway sematary.
@101Volts Жыл бұрын
Johnny had a pulsating sound to his strumming. Like he'd play the full 6 strings, then he'd play the bottom 4, then repeat. Or maybe it was the other way around with 4 then 6. Sure, Johnny played Mosrite models most commonly. But as much as I prefer the 1970s guitar tone, he didn't seem to care about playing with Mosrite pickups after a while. I'm not sure why, maybe he was after controlling the feedback a bit more after a while. Also, "tone" doesn't come from your hands so much, except in how lightly or hard you strum, and where you strum the strings - it comes from the guitar, and also the string type. Otherwise, you could make a Les Paul sound like a Stratocaster without changing the scale length, and without changing the pickups. No, I get what you're really saying. It's just that I find the saying "tone is in the fingers" to be a bit confusing. We need a better term for an individual player's sound. Like call it "Player Tone," which is slightly less confusing.

I was walking down the street in Mexico and saw a tourist, maybe in his 40’s, with the classic Ramones shirt (the presidential seal). I looked at him and said “1,2,3,4!” He had no idea what I was talking about. I was a little surprised, but maybe I shouldn’t have been. Wear the shirt, but at least give the music a try too. There’s a reason that there are so many Ramones shirts out there.

So every guitar player should be a downstroker then??? Don't be a stupid twat. You obviously don't play guitar!!👎
@michaelr.48784 жыл бұрын
@@gmantramp404 - I have played guitar for almost 30 years and in a way, the dude who made the post/guy you replied to, was correct. As in, by playing 'the way it was supposed to be played', Johnny played to the song. He wasn't all about his 30 seconds to shine. He served the song. That's what it is all about, isn't it? Yes, there is more to playing than downstroking as fast as you can possibly go. But if a song doesn't call for more, why do it? Why add something that doesn't belong. Wank when it is necessary. I probably went through 2 decades of being a cock rocker, but now, I am playing stuff I would have played when I was 12. Guess what? My songs are much better.

Even much more talented or longer played professional musicians must admit Johnny was absolutely one of the best guitarist in the world. not because of his super talents or technique but he made his own way of playing rock, the sound and touch is so unique that no-one does it better. He didn't do anything extra but all he did was so correct and made it clear at once. And Ramones started real punk and Sex Pistols just copied that with damn lousy songs and playing. My guitarhero forever is Johnny Ramone and I believe he was very beloved as a friend too with great character.

Great version by Chrissie Hynde - full of soulful meaning. Johnny's ashes should be there at his resting place though not with Linda and her 'Cinderella' fashion sense with her crappy tiaras and technicolour capes. It was disgusting her posting Mother's Day messages when she didn't give Estelle Cummings (Johnny's then 79 year old mother) a bean of Johnny's estate to live on in her old age. She didn't even invite her to Johnny's cremation service.

For Joey and maybe Johnny, it's probably largely because of the air pollution that was once in New York City. It was a *LOT* worse back then; if you haven't seen the photos of the area and seen the fume clouds hovering about, you just have no idea. Try looking up the NYC smog of Thanksgiving Week 1966, to see photos of some of the worst they ever had. Johnny, though, had prostate cancer. I don't know much about that, but come on, hygiene is a necessity. I don't think he was into eating Vegetables much, either. Dee Dee, he overdosed. Tommy probably smoked himself to death.
