Visiting Innsbruck Austria | Top of the World and Christmas Light Festival

Join me for a tour of Innsbruck, Austria. The jewel of the Tyrol region in Western Austria. In this video I head up the Mountain to the Top of Innsbruck for a view above the clouds of the majestic Alps that encircle the Innsbruck Valley. Before and afterwards I tour the city to see the Christmas Lights and Markets including the famous Lu Magica Lights Garden.
While the history of Innsbruck goes back to Roman times, the city as it is now begins with in the 12th Century with the Bavarian Kings. Going through history it, like many areas in Central Europe, changed hands many times over. Innsbruck truly became a power during the time of Austrian Emperor Maximillian I in the late 15th Century.
The Top of Innsbruck is reached by the funicular that makes 3 stops. The first at a Mountain Village 2000ft up. The 2nd stop is 6250ft elevation where you can get lifts up to the ski slopes as well as the summit of the mountain. The 3rd and final stop is of course the summit or known as, the Hafelekar. At 7401ft above sea level you get the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains. On a clear day you get even greater views of the valley itself. Stay up there for sunset, believe me it is well worth it.
When looking for a sit down place for dinner the two places I would recommend are Fischerhausl and Restaurant Stiftskeller. Both serve delicious Austrian style cuisine which, lets be real, is heavily pork or veal. They do have a great selection for most dietary restrictions.
Finally, if you visit Innsbruck during the Christmas season it truly becomes a Winter Wonderland. While the traditional Christmas Markets are as good as you'll get, the Lu Magica light show in the Innsbrucker Hofgarten is what steals the show. Done every year with slightly different themes, it is a Light Extravaganza that I've rarely seen. With lit up animals, trees, knights is shining mail among many others. All tuned to move to the music that drives the light show.

Innsbruck, Austria is must visit on any European Trip. The town is gorgeous in and of itself and the views from the top of the Mountain, particularly during winter is absolutely breathtaking.

What a cool place to visit. I love the architecture. Your facts were super interesting but the restaurants interest me most. That bread looked delicious! Not a big Hard Rock Cafe guy but that one looked cool! What a view above the clouds! It looked amazing! I love your honesty about the soup 🍲. I still cannot get over that view. It was an experience of a lifetime for sure. I still dream about that view. Just wish I'd packed my ice straps for my shoes so I could have gotten to the very top. Even still definitely a lot of fun.

Amazing tour again with interesting history .the downtown looks amazing ,the buildings looks stunning with different colours and designs .the views from the top is magical wow so cool .the hill/mountain looks stunning covered in snow and wow ,sea of cloud ,that's so amazing .breath taking views those mountains and sea of cloud all over .amazing tour Benjamin. It was such a fun experience. The whole day was a bit of a surprise. While I had scoped out the markets and downtown the day I got in, I was not expecting what I saw from the Mountain top. Neither did I know what to expect from the light show.

Restaurant is 250 yrs old, oh boy, that old.Old town looks good. The cable car to the top of the world :). Must be really cold up there. Christmas market is still there. The lights in the night look pretty. Thanks for sharing.

It was a fantastic hotel. Bummer they only do breakfast for hotel guests nowadays. So you are aware this was shot in December. I think the Christmas Markets and lights are all gone by now. Glad you enjoyed.

My favs of the video - pastry looked damn tasty :), mountain city with winter sports info was nice, 42 euros seems worth it for what you get I think on the tram (austria is an exception, very cool that you went through the FOG), I wish I could ski there being from Colorado. Austria before Xmas has to be epic
