That last point, I was starting to think I was the only one who felt like I wanted to see affectionate and intellegent robots in the world; there's barely any of 'em! I can probably count the number of friendly and cuddly robots that aren't just toys on one hand! 😵 I myself would love to build one someday.. I don't know if that will ever come, but for a long while now I've been slowly getting more and more of a grip on robotics, so who knows? 😄

I think I read an article a while back about using similar kinds of robots to help elderly folks with dementia/Alzheimer's. Something about how the interaction made them remember things better, and unlike a living pet they didn't have to worry about the robot being hurt when they did forget... it's a fascinating idea, robots as just simply little loving friends.

@@carolemerle9995 I first saw something about it a few years back, so I can't tell you where I first saw it, but Doll Therapy is something still used and discussed often in the health community. Mainly it for dolls, but I know at least once on a Sunday morning news show they talked about it... especially since many people feel that using dolls infantilizes seniors.

This is such a better idea than animal cafes which can easily lead to the exploitation and abuse of animals. With this, you get the experience of cuteness overload but without any of the repercussions of what actually happens to the animals. For the record I don’t believe all animal cafes are abusive but this just seems like the better option to me.

Oh I wanted to mention something. SOME animal cafes (more commonly cats) actually participate in rescue work and their animals are for adoption. I don’t know if it’s common in Japan, but the 3 cat cafes I know of in Texas work closely with the cat rescue community and ALL of the cats and kittens at the cafe are looking for homes! The two cafes are The Charming Cat Corner, The Casual Cat Cafe and The Cozy Catfe. So unless they do rescue work and genuinely care for their animals well-being instead of profit, then yeah. Animal cafes shouldn’t exist.

I actually really love this, it's similar to a pet café, without the inconvenience of poor conditions the pets have to endure to make a café money. I can see this wouldn't be as cheap of a place to go to, I am sure the charging and upkeep of these robots costs more than taking care of animals. (Sadly) But the fact it can be a really ethical alternative to a pet Café really sparks joy to me. The AI and emoting is very intriguing too!

Oh these were absolutely amazing! They really are so sweet, cute and compelling. Those expressions and sounds, plus their weight and warmth too make them absolutely wonderful 😍 I'm disabled with home carers, I know there's talk of robotic care support in the future but if they made aspects like this, including touch and holding is so vital to humanity. They're just adorable and would be like fantastic pets. I just loved how they all went to say goodbye to you 💖💖

It's the unique character of Japan that is very evident in ideas like this which combine technology, kawaii, and beautifully presented food! (It looked amazing and artistic) As a foodie robot loving Japanholic, I think this ticks all the boxes. Hopefully they will be able to add different languages to their understanding, and I wish the black cameras on their heads looked the same as the rest of them, would add to the cute factor. Whilst I like cat cafes very much, and have been to one myself here in London, obviously the welfare of the cats is a worry, but here that worry is eliminated.
