I love Perry Ritter Sax repairs ...!!! He’s located in midtown Manhattan. He starts working at a mind blowing 6:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon. And he’s not expensive, uses the best pads, and keeps great hours...!!! The best part is that it’s a one man operation, and Perry only repairs saxophones for a living. He specializes, so he knows everything there is to know about repairing them...!!

John is the real deal. The best feeling horns I've ever touched. He also does this full time. There were times where I'd go and see him at 9am, and then 8pm. He lives it, man.

I'll keep that in mind. Does he work on beginner alto sax horns? I have a YAS-23 from the 80's where some of the keys are out of alignment and needs a serious overhaul. It's never had one.

Yes! John is an artist with repairing horns.. very cool.

Appreciate the insight into Saxophone mechanics from John Leadbetter. One of the things I'm still struggling with, is finding a trustworthy tech here in So Cal. Yikes!

Love the horn geekage. Also, laughed at your daughter and the foreshadowing to my future where three women (2 kids and my wife) will get glassy eyed as I talk about my saxes... :P

Hey Bob, Thanks for this video. Because this I discovered John's shop and have now taken 3 horns for proper setup. The first alto he setup was previously owned by a known jazz musician which had major flaws, or should I say unorthodox setup. It came back to perfection and has been my best Mark VI alto so far. Just recently, I picked up my 47xxx SBA alto which had leaks on the lower stack and it plays flawlessly now - he actually liked the horn after thoroughly testing it. He's now working on my 38xxx silver plated SBA and can't wait what he does with it.

I live in NYC and LOVE it! Kim Bock is also good, he is over in Long Island City which is right over the 59St Bridge from Manhattan to Queens. Great place to visit and play some serious MKVI Horns.

Got my first horn from Charlie Ponte Music in 1968. $300 for a beautiful Mk VI, used. Mr. Ponte one of the worlds greats. In his shop you meet folks like Pharaou, Archie Shep, Ornette, many more. He would play a horn and then bang it hard! Scared the owners to death but it would be fixed. He bent, bent, banged and more with the precision of a master. Heck of a nice man as well. G-d bless Charlie Ponte! Midtown Manhattan

Shit... I need to schedule a trip to New York... what’s the address? Digits? 😩. I am going to buy a light for my horn so that I can check for leaks. You never know when you bump it or play super groovy and something wiggles loose.( hmm could I buy a light and where would I find it?🧐🤔🤔 that is the question ) Btw: baby girl is so patiently waiting on daddy to finish!😩🙌🏾❤️❤️ Adorable.

Your saxophone is not a SBA or 'Super Balanced Action ' Selmer Tenor . It is a 'Super Action' as distinct from the previous 'Balanced Action ' .It continued being called a Super Action after 1954 when it was superceded by the Mk 6 in its various guises up to about 1976 when the new SA80 was made .It was called a super action 80 as homage to the Super Action which yours is . Dealers got confused so added the word 'balanced' to the older Super Actions to make life easy . Yours is a Super Action and calling it by its right name would be proper . Selmer never made a SBA .
