I was to Leonard Cohen's grave in October 2019. I lost myself in the cemetery because it's very big. I'm from Italy and when I stayed there I met a nice and gentle woman from Australia. We hugged and we become friends. Leonard makes miracles. I'll always love him.

Lou Reed at the R&R Hall of fame for Leonard said about him. "we are so lucky to be alive at the same time as Leonard Cohen". I have been listening to his music and reading his poetry going on 50yrs and I have been so inspired by what he says.He is a brilliant , genuine man of high integrity.I have been listening, starting with his first album and on up to his last album. It's been an incredible journey. He has been the right poet and songwriter at the right time and for the right generation. I miss him very much. The world was a better place when Leonard was in it.

My mother softly played his music a lot when I was a young child after me and my sister had been tucked into bed and I can remember now how his voice used to drift up from downstairs and we must have fallen asleep to his songs many times. Later I got into him myself as a twenty+ year old and ever since have been a fan. That was a really gentle viewing of his resting place. Thanks for posting it.

I have exposed his genius to as many open hearts as possible to enjoy the words, the humor...the man. I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston in 2009, the evening was not so much a concert as it was a spiritual event. The funny thing about parties, it does not matter whether you are early or late...just be thankful someone invited you. Merci d'être vous Leonard et de donner au monde le cadeau durable de vous.

For me, Cohen opened my young eyes to another, wider view of the world and way of living. It would be appropriate for him the have a much grander resting place but this relatively humble grave fits. I ride around our near-CBD (Adelaide South Australia) bike parks all the time and one of the main-north south paths goes right through the cemetery and we are not required to dismount. Another random connection is your 'Billabong' t-shirt which is a brand originating in Australia. A billabong comes from a first nations word which refers to a seasonal creek. In many ways it's an evironment that is so different to yours. A Canadian aquaintence of mine described our seasons as 'cool Summer' and 'scalding hot Summer'. An Australian might describe your seasons as 'cool Winter' and 'freezing Winter'. Fortunately our outpost of humanity was big enough to attract a number of tours from the great man over the years. He never dissapointed.

It was the family seat of Countess Marcovich a leader in the Irish rising of 1916, her neighbours were the Yeates boys , Artists and poets . Pass a cold eye on life, on death, Horseman passby. W.B. Yeates Leonard was enamoured with the mistic feeling of the place, and of how such interesting and talented people lived in rural areas, yet a stones throw from each other, it is a magical special place 💙❤ Leonard was wonderful that summers evening, and it has stayed with me, a memory I can look back on when in times like this we look for guidance.. Thanks for this Ben. In about 1977 I passed through Montreal and liked it, thinking about Leonard Cohen, not just his songs but also his poetry I had the passing thought, "I'd like to live here for a couple of years." Then in 1980 I got a chance to move there. Lived in Old Montreal. I developed some ideas about where the places mentioned in Suzanne were. I happened to mention them to a screenwriter I was driving around and he snorted. He knew Cohen, and Suzanne Verdal; set me straight. It was sort of 'a telling the dumb kid what for' moment. But it was also a real moment for me, I was living inside that song, the places songs are sung about are right there - we can go there, we can find out we're already living there. We can write our own songs. All I had to do was pay attention. A couple months later I noticed Abbie Hoffman, still on the lam for three more weeks, walking up Beaver Hall. I was still new to this amazing life, and he looked paranoid so I didn't say anything. It's been this amazing ever since. Yeah, Leonard Cohen touched a lot of us, made us brothers and sisters.
