I was to Leonard Cohen's grave in October 2019. I lost myself in the cemetery because it's very big. I'm from Italy and when I stayed there I met a nice and gentle woman from Australia. We hugged and we become friends. Leonard makes miracles. I'll always love him.

Lou Reed at the R&R Hall of fame for Leonard said about him. "we are so lucky to be alive at the same time as Leonard Cohen". I have been listening to his music and reading his poetry going on 50yrs and I have been so inspired by what he says.He is a brilliant , genuine man of high integrity.I have been listening, starting with his first album and on up to his last album. It's been an incredible journey. He has been the right poet and songwriter at the right time and for the right generation. I miss him very much. The world was a better place when Leonard was in it.

@@dirtysanchez941 Thank you. When his manager stole almost every cent of his money, Leonard had to go out and do live concerts. He was 73 and hadn't been live for 15yrs. He was worried that people wouldn't come to his concerts. People around the world not only went to see him live, but his concerts were sellouts! He was a special man. Go Well!

@@writerman242 I saw him three times in Amsterdam, from 1970 onwards. The 4th time I went to his concert was in 2005 in Auckland, NZ. His concerts never disappointed, he always was energetic and focused and often communicated with the audience. He was a remarkable man and is missed dearly.

My mother softly played his music a lot when I was a young child after me and my sister had been tucked into bed and I can remember now how his voice used to drift up from downstairs and we must have fallen asleep to his songs many times. Later I got into him myself as a twenty+ year old and ever since have been a fan. That was a really gentle viewing of his resting place. Thanks for posting it.

Was late to the party when I discovered him singing in Pump Up The Volume and I have been a fan ever since the late 80's. I have exposed his genius to as many open hearts as possible to enjoy the words, the humor...the man. I was lucky enough to see him perform in Boston in 2009, the evening was not so much a concert as it was a spiritual event. The funny thing about parties, it does not matter whether you are early or late...just be thankful someone invited you. Merci d'être vous Leonard et de donner au monde le cadeau durable de vous.

Amazing talent, he actually got even better as he aged. I loved that gravely voice he had as an older man. And what a lyricist. What a human and earthy and funny human being. Saw him in concert at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn when he was 77 years old. He did a three hour concert. Incredible. I would love to visit his grave in Montreal to pay my respects and thank him. His memory will always be a blessing to so many of us. Love you, Leonard, my brother.

For me, Cohen opened my young eyes to another, wider view of the world and way of living. It would be appropriate for him the have a much grander resting place but this relatively humble grave fits. I ride around our near-CBD (Adelaide South Australia) bike parks all the time and one of the main-north south paths goes right through the cemetery and we are not required to dismount. Another random connection is your 'Billabong' t-shirt which is a brand originating in Australia. A billabong comes from a first nations word which refers to a seasonal creek. In many ways it's an evironment that is so different to yours. A Canadian aquaintence of mine described our seasons as 'cool Summer' and 'scalding hot Summer'. An Australian might describe your seasons as 'cool Winter' and 'freezing Winter'. Fortunately our outpost of humanity was big enough to attract a number of tours from the great man over the years. He never dissapointed.

Thank you for taking the time to post your visit to Leonards resting place, I seen him performing at Lisadel House,, its in Sligo, Ireland 🇮🇪. It was the family seat of Countess Marcovich a leader in the Irish rising of 1916, her neighbours were the Yeates boys , Artists and poets . Pass a cold eye on life, on death, Horseman passby. W.B. Yeates Leonard was enamoured with the mistic feeling of the place, and of how such interesting and talented people lived in rural areas, yet a stones throw from each other, it is a magical special place 💙❤ Leonard was wonderful that summers evening, and it has stayed with me, a memory I can look back on when in times like this we look for guidance.. Leonard loves Yeates and we loved the beauty of Leonards soul ❤ Rest in peace friend xx

Thanks for this Ben. In about 1977 I passed through Montreal and liked it, thinking about Leonard Cohen, not just his songs but also his poetry I had the passing thought, "I'd like to live here for a couple of years." Then in 1980 I got a chance to move there. Lived in Old Montreal. I developed some ideas about where the places mentioned in Suzanne were. I happened to mention them to a screenwriter I was driving around and he snorted. He knew Cohen, and Suzanne Verdal; set me straight. It was sort of 'a telling the dumb kid what for' moment. But it was also a real moment for me, I was living inside that song, the places songs are sung about are right there - we can go there, we can find out we're already living there. We can write our own songs. All I had to do was pay attention. A couple months later I noticed Abbie Hoffman, still on the lam for three more weeks, walking up Beaver Hall. I was still new to this amazing life, and he looked paranoid so I didn't say anything. It's been this amazing ever since. Yeah, Leonard Cohen touched a lot of us, made us brothers and sisters.

I grew up listening, reading and learning from Leonard. I'm from the west coast and one day I was in Montreal at a hotel when who do I see but Leonard and Marriane! I walked by and say Hi Leonard like it was totally normal with a hi back. I have since had the opportunity to see him in concert many a time that "man with the golden voice" I think that the best was when he was on his last world tour in Lyon it was an outside concert the sun was setting and Leonard was singing "It's closing time" still feels like yesterday. Missing you LC♥️

English is my second language, I am a Muslim, came across Leonard Cohan’s songs just by chance, ever since I am hooked, I don't know about his personal life but it seems as though he went through turbulence in his personal life and put that in words, I felt sadness in his voice, rest in peace dear Leanord, may Allah bless you for touching our hearts with your music.

Oh thanks for posting this Sir, He was a wellknown and an appreciated singer allover Europe too.. My husband was a big fan of his music and me too. One of my favorite is "HEY, THAT'S NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE"... And "SUSANNE" was a very popular song in the 70's here in the Netherlands. I never knew he was a Canuk till a Canadian friend of mine who also live in Montreal told me. I wish I could visit his grave with my friend but unfortunately we lost contact.... RIP Leonard..

@Ben Philippi It isn't the time right now to visit Montreal or any other city in Canada, knowing the whole world is fighting a terrible disease called Covid-19 but I would love to travel around for a month or so . Will you invite me and give me a place to stay dear? Where are you from? Are you also Canadian? I am sorry if I ask you too much private question, and there is no need to answer me, it's just curiousity. Love from the Netherlands.

Who knows to what extent any of us have been influenced by Leonard's body of work. I got the chance to see Leonard Cohen live on his last tour in Brisbane, Australia. Thanks for this little video. If I was in Montreal I too would make the effort to visit his grave. And you DO NOT want to get COVID. I got it nearly a year ago and became a Long Hauler. It is really the pits. Enjoy your ride. Great sport.

Leonard along with Joni mitchell are 2 musicians I feel privileged that I have lived within their lifetimes. Their words, music and poetry have shown me truth, wisdom and beauty. And are both genius's. Both Canadian. Rip Leonard.
