Colleen, something my therapist taught me is mourning is not exclusive to death. You can mourn anything from moving to a new house to your favorite restaurant closing. Yes, those things may be smaller but that does not mean you’re not mourning the loss of the life you had before. Moving into a new house means a new era of your life, so it’s normal to walk down memory lane and mourn what you had before, especially when so many important things happened in your last era♥️♥️ just think of yourself as taylor swift! 🤣

Collen, im no doctor or therapist but im pretty sure what you are feeling is NOSTALGIA. Which can be a pretty bitter sweet feeling, which brings back beautiful memories and not necessarily making you sad but making you remember how beautiful it felt to live those moments. Ive felt this before moving to different houses and countries or even thinking about my childhood. Sending you hugs❤

I was coming down to comment this, too - Nostalgia! It's something I always feel when I re-visit places where I've spent a lot of time or experienced things with people who are important to me, and you're right, it's definitely bitter-sweet. You feel ALL the things associated with those memories, including a sadness that those times have passed, but also sometimes such a deep appreciation that they happened. It can feel very conflicting and confusing.

YES ERIK, there was an 80s Beauty & the Beast show that was AMAZING. ALSO, Colleen you need to read the theories that Belle's whole village is stuck in time because of the curse and is repeating every day over and over which explains a lot of the weirdness.

Coleen, i think that you’re feeling something that the english doesn’t have a word to describe, so i’ll tell you how we call this in portuguese: Saudade. it’s like when you miss someone or something, but in a more sentimental and melancholic way. as a brazilian i think this word can be like a hug when you’re alone, but also can bring so many memories to fill a space or to remind yourself how things were and how they turned. saudade can be painful but also can be joyful 💖

Hi Colleen! Grief comes in sooooo many different forms, and not all bad! It’s completely normal for you to feel “weird” visiting a place where you’ve had so many memories. Places can mean as much to us as people and relationships can, so when it’s gone it makes sense to grieve. But that doesn’t mean you’re not happy where you are now! We grieve because we love❤️ let yourself grieve and acknowledge how much love you gave to that house and how much love that house gave you

I think part of the story of beauty and the beast is that people can change if they genuinely want to, and there's that contrast between Gaston who wants Belle to change for him and is unwilling to change his own life to accommodate having her in it, and the Beast who sees her being good and kind and is inspired to change himself to be more like her. I think if he'd stayed mean and bratty she would have stayed not into him. The imprisonment thing isn't great though

Yess agreed!! I fell like we ofter modernise everything and see it from a different perspective and try to make it realistic when it's clearly not hahhaha. And even the imprisonment thing I fell like they put it in the story as a sort of a representation that the beast is an animal and not a human, and that he doesn't "know" how to love. (idk i might be wrong) But if we see everything so literally we will ruin every fantasy :')

Colleen! I wish I could give you a hug. So many comments have already beautifully articulated the feelings of mourning that you're probably feeling, but I'd also add, you might be feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude at the same time. Being the in the place that housed and protected you and your family for so many years, where you grew into yourself and eventually grew your family, I'd imagine that you'd be remembering all the love and safety that this place offered you in an instant. You're mourning the end of that chapter in your life, but also experiencing all the gratitude for the home that let you write that chapter to beginning with. Also, remember that there's no right or wrong way to feel. Feel your feelings, Queen. And onto the next chapter.

Belle has also always been my favorite Disney princess and I totally know what Colleen is talking about with watching Beauty and the Beast as an adult! She's still my fave and she always will be, but it's definitely weird to watch with an adult perspective. I guess with the Beast it's that being trapped that way has made him angry and bitter but Belle teaches him to appreciate the smaller things in life. Something There is my favorite song too!

Beauty and the Beast teaches us to look beyond the surface and to seek understanding- empathy for others. The Prince was turned into a beast because he had no love in his heart, and he became angry and defensive because he was shunned and ostracized…because people judged him. Forgiveness and redemption, Colleen. You know this.

Colleen - I am v-e-r-y happy to hear you say you love your new home! 💗 I purchased my first home as a single woman, loved, loved, loved it, then had to sell it & move. The 1st home was perfect, it didn't need any work, etc. Then the 2nd home - it was a dreadful nightmare! So many renovations needed to be done, and it was so dirty! 🙀 I thought I made a huge mistake. 20 years later I am still in my 2nd home, and am very happy it all worked out. I hope you thanked your 1st home for all the good memories & prayed the next family would love it as much as you did !!! Both homes are truly amazing! I am happy for your family! I know a lot of people are saying grief is what you're feeling, but I think the more accurate term would be gratitude. That house means so much to you and served you and your growing family well over the years. Something Marie Kondo (the "Spark Joy" lady) always did whenever she went to a client's home is take a moment with the residents to "thank" the house for everything it has provided for them. It's really a great practice to express gratitude to material things that are meaningful to you

I think tears can come from any type of overwhelming emotion. Maybe being in a place that holds so many special memories brings tears of deep appreciation & love for all of the time connecting with loved ones in that place. As someone that values spending quality time with your family together & hosting gatherings, any home you are in holds memories of the people you love most. Being physically there might also enhance the memories for you (like how they say it’s good to take a test in the same room where you learned things - the context is meant to help with memory recall). Contextual memories also came up for you when you were by the grocery store earlier. Explanation or not, it makes perfect sense to me that spaces hold energy & memories & that being in a place of so many big life changes would bring heightened emotions. Unrelated unsolicited hair opinion: Ever since you cut your bangs I’ve been thinking you would look great with some version of a “French girl bob” (maybe a longer version if the classic one feels too short). I support the bangs!

Colleen, Erik is correct. There was a live-action Beauty and the Beast in the 80s. But it wasn't a movie, it was a series that lasted for 3 seasons and started in 1987. I was in high school when it was on and I LOVED it. It starred Linda Hamilton as the Belle character (her name was Catherine in the series) and Ron Pearlman as Vincent (the Beast character) as you may imagine it is loosely based on Beauty and the Beast. But all in all, Erik was correct.

I think that feeling you're having is just grief! You can grieve transitions in your life even if you're moving on to something bigger and better. It's normal and totally valid

i think because spending time in your home is such a sensory experience, the memories and nostalgia become stronger. when my grandmother moved out of her house into a retirement home i was so sad and grieved the loss of that house. she passed away just over a month ago and i still feel like i can remember every detail of being in her house with her because those sensory memories are so significant

Things we love/have loved deeply can make us cry. When I think back to how vulnerable my cat was when she got horribly sick and how grateful I am that she is healthy and that she is with us and how sweet and caring she is, I often get tears in my eyes. And sometimes I cry when I look at my partner and it is just pure love that I feel in those times. Of course I cry when I think about people that I lost, but I also cry at people that I have around and love

I think nostalgia has always felt like death for me. It feels so good to experience the joys of the memories but the loss of the grip you had on the past. I get it 100% 😢

Belle was considered weird for reading because in that time period women weren’t reading. They didn’t typically have an education. It’s messed up that they thought there was something wrong with her for it, but there were LOTS of things that they judged people wrongly for in that time period, so it’s not really a surprise. They kind of try to touch on that in the Live Action movie when the people in the town get upset at Belle for trying to teach the one girl how to read.

Hi Colleen! I feel similarly while driving. Listening to audiobooks in the car has really helped me! It gives my brain something to focus on (while still driving safely of course) and really helps my mood!!

Beauty and the Beast is about an angry selfish king realizing the error of his stubborn and vain ways, getting punished for it and then actually growing and changing with the help of Belles influence and acceptance of him in his Beast form. That’s why he ends up with the girl and not Gaston, the actual villain with horrid characteristics and unwilling to change. The beast is not all bad, he just has a hard time showing his true emotions. Belle also lives very comfortably in the palace, she is not tortured. This is a story with a message as are all fairy tales - it’s about the value of inward characteristics instead of just appearance. Vanity and selfishness are wrong. We all have a little beast inside us, it’s about not letting your bad/negative side take over. Your biggest enemy is sometimes yourself. Make good choices. Be nice to strangers. You should read a book and research the morale of a story before you shit on the entire thing.

Colleen....you were crying cause you are still in mourning hun. You may not be sad but you are grieving. It was a huge big chapter of your life that is no longer. And grief is like waves, it ebbs and flows. And IT IS OKAY!!! You may adore your new home but it is Okay to still miss what was

It literally makes me so happy to hear that Colleen's favourite musical is Into the Woods, and then for her to talk about how much she loves Beauty and the Beast and that Belle is her favourite (I was literally thinking earlier about how she is my favourite princess) AND THEN TO SAY HER FAVOURITE SONG IS SOMETHING MORE?!?!? LITERALLY INCREDIBLE

It can’t be a coincidence! I loved it so much I had to share 🤍 anywaysssssss greeting from Poland! 🤍

Tortilla Talk Question: Do you have any advice on how to stay vigilant in prioritizing mental health long term? I am a pretty young college student and I have been struggling with depression, anxiety, and OCD for a while but it has gotten a lot worse recently. I have been and still am getting help, but the process can be exhausting and feel a little hopeless sometimes. Thanks❤
