What a great video I was a herdsman back in the 80s my fist farm post college was 400 cows on 3 x day milking in a 24/24 herringbone and i thought that was big only stuck that out for 6 months lol

I used to milk 3 x a day = 9 hours in a parlour each day. I haven’t milked a cow since F & M. I was always contract shepherding so just moved more onto that side. Now we have our own place in the Shetlands with 450 ewes. Looking to move back to mainland asap.

We used the collars on our cows to track everything about each cow. It kept medical records on each cow milking records on each one how much milk given every milking and total for each day. It kept track of how much feed they ate and it was also hooked to the feeder. Each time the cow put their head in the feeder a measured amount of the feed mixture specifically blended for that cow is despensed into the feeder for that cow. They enter the feeder several times a day until their total amount of feed is eaten . It also added any supplements that cow needed. The new technology in dairy farming is amazing.

I really love the “Rotary Parlor” over all others!! I had a 3- on a side, side opening parlor (6) machines total!! The fastest speed I had was 30 Cows per Hour!!! I could really concentrate on Milking Hygiene with that system!! I averaged 49,000 on Somatic Cells, by paying attention to detail!! Unfortunately, no one ever paid me for my efforts?!!! Do you have good quality incentives? I’m very impressed with your Dairy, and your positive attitude!! It is very apparent that you Love Cows, and the Dairy Business!! You so remind me of my Daughter, “Hannah”!! You two even look alike!! Thank you for your outstanding efforts in the making if these Videos!! Thanks again, Vic Chiapetta, Petaluma Ca.!!

Also Evie, Here in Ca., the larger Dairies got away from those Milk Silos, and instead, run the Milk thru Plate Coolers and Falling Film Chillers to reduce the Milk to 38 degrees and directly into the Truck!! When that one is full, they switch over to the next Truck, and so on!! Too many problems with Silos, Cooling, Cleaning, etc!!
