Watching this it's like taking a pilgrimage to Punjab's greatest poet's dargah. It is a beautiful place. My grandfather used to read and sing Sayyed Waris Shah's Heer with his friends during the afternoon s. Thanks for sharing this visit. Waris Shah is a revered personality in the Eastern Punjab.

The hardships, tragedies and the bleak landscape shapes creativity and create literary masterpiece. Punjabi is the most attractive language in the world. Every phrase holds an emotion, a story and cultural legacy. Its appeal is universal. Many years back, I was walking the Las Vegas Strip, and all of a sudden a famous Punjabi song started blaring. Thinking, Indians were having a conference, I went into the exclusive club; to my surprise, only goras lip sync and dancing to the Punjabi words. On the outskirts of Agra, I was talking to another Sikh and a UP bhayia, stopped by to listen. He said he is not nosy and doesn't understand a word but the joy of hearing Punjabi between two sardar is beyond happiness!

Another remarkable coverage of the Waris Shah shrine as well as within limited time sharing the spread, depth, variety of characters, emotions, human nature's shades all woven in a poem. We had Lamb's Tales of Shakespeare in 7th & 8th grades. His 20 plays were covered in the 2 years as part of English literature. On entering university as a science student later, I started analyzing that Shakespeare only WROTE ABOUT KINGS, ARISTOCRATS, KNIGHTS, AND ELITES OF HIS SOCIETY. NEVER ABOUT THE COMMON MAN WHOM HE WOULD HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN HIS DAILY LIFE. Hence, for me, Shakespeare in Punjabi lingo was a "TANKHAIYA" nothing more as far as his literary contributions are concerned. There are authors in several languages far greater in stature than him on the earth, making contributions as literary writers or poets from different nations, languages, and cultures. Bulleh Shah, Ghulam Farid, Kabir, Surdas, Meera, Nagarjuna, Nizamuddin, Salim Chishti. Knowing a language and its vocabulary is not enough. It is important for whom and how that vocabulary is used for the common man's life and experiences. Shakespeare comes far lower in stature in comparison to Gorky, Tolstoy, O Henry. Maupassant, D H Lawrence, Somerset Maugham, Kafka, Bronte Sisters, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens author of Oliver Twist, Moby Dick, Nikol Gogoi, Sadat Hasan Manto, author of Udas Naslen, Khuda Ki Basti, Asmat Chughtai to name a few. Shakespeare comes far below the ones I have named here.

No doubt about that but Shakespeare has his style . Very artistically he picks on the universal strands of human weaknesses . These all are great poets and writers. Shakespeare broke new grounds by addressing to the free will of man as against the Greek dramatists

The Hollywood films " El Cid" or "Dream of Passion" bring out that Greek tragedy and the depth to which human psychology even in BC era is found addressing the social functionality. Shakespeare is found lacking at least to me at several levels.
