Hi Chako, I liked your video depicting all of you enjoying the fun-filled day in this interesting town. I have a correction to make to one of your captions, though. It was almost 10 years ago when $1=¥100, Chako. The conversion rate now is much different. As a matter of fact, 1,300 yen is $8.23 as of today. It’s a great time to visit Japan from US. I gather your mom must like the rate now. She certainly picked the prime time to visit you guys. I wish she continues to enjoy spending precious quality time with you and your family. Looking forward to the next video, Shin from Colorado

Yes I am aware of the current exchange rate. As it is ever fluctuating, we just rounded to the nearest 0 to make things easier. Eventually it will return there.
A comparative anthropology prof. who nationalized to Japan from Korea questioned her students which pottery they prefer, symmetrical one like Maisen or distorted one of Shigaraki. She said almost all of Chinese and Korean students chose the former but most Japanese ones picked the latter. It’d be the influence from Confucianism for the Chinese and Koreans while wabisabi for the Japanese. Which do you like, Charlotte?

Oh, I definitely prefer Shigaraki style. (It’s the style I learned to make with a master potter here as a student!) I’m all about that wabisabi! 😁
This is so humorous on so many levels! I love it. 😂

There are so many interesting sites specific to the region in Japan and I never learned about this one! So fun! Your second son must be so sad that the turtle is broken 😢

I am going to fix it for him. Luckily all of the prices broke cleanly and I was able to collect them all.
