Thanx for a good video and a great chanel! Old Uppsala was probably established in the wake of the catastrophe of 536. Due to vulcanic eruptions northern hemisphere had 11 years with very cold summers. 50%+ of population of Scandinavia starved to death. And in the 6th century we find this new political centre, Gamla Uppsala. Which is conspicious. This area emerged out of the sea around 2000 BC. Due to the last ice age, there is substantial land rise in Sweden. Since the Viking age, the land has risen 6 metres. Since 536, probably more like 10 or 12 metres. In the battle of Fyrisvallarna, at Old Uppsala, the aggressors arrived by boat. What is called Uppsala now used to be called Östra Aros (eastern estuary). It used to be the port of Old Uppsala, when land rise had made Old Uppsala inaccessible by ship. When the archbishopry was moved from Old Uppsala to Östra Aros, the Vatican only granted it on the condition that the name "Uppsala" went with it. So at least in the 13th century, the Vatican regarded "Uppsala" as important, from a religious-pagan perspective. You also have Celsius, who developed the Centigrade, buried in the church in Gamla Uppsala. This Church is much smaller than it used to be, what remains is roughly the cross bar of a much bigger church (but Celsius was buried there when it was in this shape, it was much bigger in the 1250ies).
