Hello! Im uruguayan, I would have been great for you to visit Piriapolis, that is a 40km of Punta del Este, but now, before you leave Uruguay I can recommend you going to Cabo Polonio, La Paloma or La Pedrera in Rocha, these are more beautiful touristic cities and there are near of the border with Brazil, so you have to cross it obligatory. Both are better options than Chuy, which is a more shopping place. I hope you can read me, good luck!

That train station is the AFE train station which belongs to the railroad state company. Sadly at some point it was left unused when passenger trains stopped working. It was used for events and stuff but its a shame. When i was a child i had the great opportunity to take a train there, a great experience. Hope you had a great stay of our lil country.

You'll have a better chance in the duty free shops in Chuy or further on in Brazil. Also you should hit up the food market in Tienda Inglesa, their takeaway food (especially the chicken lasagna and buñuelos de espinaca) is just delicious. Love the content! Definitely sticking around. 🙂

Saddly that entire section of the rambla, where you pointed out the highrises in Mdeo, used to have the most amazing mansions, the same in Punta (a bit more modern). I have traveled to UY for 40 years and documented the architectural loss, many should have been kept as historical buildings. Don't miss Piriapolis, my fave in the Maldonado department!! In Rocha you must go to Valizas, but keep in mind UY is not a tropical country and has only 3 months of summer. Cheers from Washington, DC.

ok, so I've been wanting one of those Tuk Tuks for a long time. I researched getting one from China but thought it might be easier to get one from South America since I was in Texas at the time. I found several in Bolivia that had more room, larger with four doors and windows. They even had a sun roof and stereo system. Check them out when you're there because that engine in the current Tuk tuk may be nearing the end of it's life, especially the clutch. I'm looking forward to your next episode, hopefully today on Sunday. Salud!

Another point is all this places are 300% better during summertime and packed. Saludos

As you move north and enter brazilian territory, please be very careful on highways. From Porto Alegre onwards, you will find heavy traffic, gigantic trucks at full speed and dangerous roads with many curves, I am not sure to travel by tuk-tuk is a good idea, maybe you could think of changing to another vehicle on 4 wheels.

6:40 yes, in Uruguay trains are not really used anymore, back in the day yeah, but they almost dissapeared, still used for some stuff transportation but not people, but i believe there is one for people ONE SIMPLE UNIT still used in Tacuarembo and travels to Rivera... AFE was an organism that controlled all related to railways in the country closed in the 90s, since then most train paths rotted or were removed... a little bit sad however i belive this year a project was announced or something to make them back to travel people, but im not well informed about it, its very new... sorry for my writing did what i could cheers and thanks for coming here!

Uruguay has better dulce de leche, hands down. If you can get some handmade one without preservatives, even better. Los Nietitos has one, but is a commercial brand, hard to get here in DC, but I do order it online. I suggest local artisan stuff that is not mass produced usually made in local bakeries in remote areas outside the capital.

Loved your video though it´s a pity you showed so little of Montevideo, there are some nice places to see, nicer than the Downtown/Cordón area where you were. You are on a schedule and most likely won´t have time to visit, but just a few km east of Punta del Este you have Barra and Manantiales, more laid back than PdelE, more like it was before the skyrises. And posh José Ignacio. Off-season so not much going on, though. Cabo Polonio, La Pedrera, Punta del Diablo if you are driving along the coast. Some 50km before Chuy there´s Fortaleza Santa Teresa, a reminder of colonial times, with a camping site close by. As they said, Chuy has nothing to offer, just get your passport stamped and drive on to Brazil. Cheers.
