Visiting The Oldest Public Library In The UK, PLUS A Medieval Festival | Chetham's School Of Music
I had the pleasure of visiting Chetham's school of music this week as they opened up some of their fantastic medieval buildings and hosted a medieval festival. I also booked to have a tour of Chetham's library, which just so happens to be the oldest public library in the UK! It was marvelous, with 250,000 items, and a thoroughly interesting history, not to mention the incredible building itself. The festival had lots of interesting things too, such as musicians playing medieval music and instruments, a puppet show, a tent full of gorgeous birds of prey, and so much more! It was a great way to celebrate 600 years! If you'd like more information on Chetham's library, or want to plan a visit for yourself, I'll leave some links below.

If you’re watching this and haven’t been to Chetham’s Library, you should know it's a brief walk from Manchester's city centre. As a repository of the UK's national heritage, it holds deep significance. It's concerning therefore, truly if I must say so, that such an important collective history stands exposed to the current wave of unrest and dissent aimed at British traditions that we’re seeing up and down the country. Regardless of one's view on the present tensions, we must indeed recognise - and cannot ignore - the prolonged peace in the UK that has preserved Chetham's for so many years, allowing those who wish to enjoy and partake in the legacy of their ancestors. It's a stark reminder then, to cherish and defend the serenity that has cradled and preserved this treasure through time. So would you like to know what nostalgia actually means? It's right there in the quiet halls of Chetham's Library and its buildings, amidst the echoes of bygone eras and the fascination that intrigues us. We’re truly privileged to have these historical buildings still standing, which contain an emblem of our past so close to our hearts, and it’s extremely imperative that we protect them, and maintain their stature for future generations to cherish and enjoy, just like we and those before us have done so. *Let's think about that for a moment and how we should protect our success, our heritage, our culture, our history, and our families.*
