I'm laying on my bed in the Franklin Hotel, watching this episode on my laptop. Even being here right now, you're giving me further insights into this great little town. I'm attending the "3 Wheeler Rally", which ends this Friday. This rally happens annually a few seeks before Sturgis. So, we have an exciting rally atmosphere, but its a more intimate gathering, which allows us more time to interact with the local population, which I personally love. Along with the pictures and videos I've taken while in Deadwood, I'm going to share your Deadwood series with my friends to enhance my story telling and photo documentation.

I loved Deadwood when we were there during the rally last year! We will be back this year. Great video - what a cool story & nice ladies! Last year we went into another saloon to use the restroom real quick and it was where Wild Bill was shot I guess (had a downstairs area) & as I was walking in I heard a guy say something about a small town and he starting playing Small Town from John Mellencamp. When he was finished he said he was from that small town in Indiana (Seymour) and that's where we are from! Mu husband knew who he was after he said it. It was pretty cool running into someone randomly that far away :)

Small world!! That's awesome. Gotta love the small town atmosphere for sure. Seeing Deadwood without the rally going on was a great experience. Aside from the lack of bikes lining the streets, it was still hoppin' and lively! Thanks for watching, Crystal👍

The real location and the original location of saloon #10 where Wild bill was shot is up the street from this bar. Most people don’t realize this. It is not the bar and location discussed in this video. Great job on the rest of it though.

Yup, I believe they mentioned that, unless we left it out in the edit. After everything burned down, when their father bought the bar up the street from the original Saloon 10, their goal was to recreate it in that location. Thanks for watching, Steve

My theory regarding that chair is, when the fire was raging that burned the town down, people would have been grabbing everything they could to save and pilling it outside in the street. Perhaps The chair got saved along with others. Years later imagine somebody asking, "What chair was Hickok sitting in when he was shot?" The answer may have been, "I don't know, pick one out." To me, the best part is halfway through where you go into the new Saloon No. 10 and two sisters, who’s parents bought the place in 1963, tell you about how it came to be. Look for my comment. In my book, A BRIDGE TO TIME, I recount that one our way to reenact the 110th anniversary of the Little Big Horn Battle in 1876, I mention how Deadwood was dead back then (1986). After the film Dances with Wolves struck it rich, Kevin Costner pumped a bunch of money into the town to revive it and they legalized gambling. Now the only time Deadwood appears dead is early in the morning, and try to find a place that does not have a slot machine. I think the only one is the ice cream parlor.

First time I was in the #10(old style) Saloon was in July of 1976 (100th anniversary of Wild Bill’s death). I was a new airman stationed at my first base after basic training (Ellsworth AFB) and went up to Deadwood for the “Days of 76” party that’s held every year for 2 week prior to the bike rally at Sturgis. While walking down the street I was pulled into the theater to be part of the “jury” for Jack McCall’s trial. None of us were told of the actual results but when the time came I voted him not guilty while the rest of the jury voted him guilty. The MC then explained the actual results and how Jack was hunted down and retried and hung later. I haven’t been back to the #10 since 1979. So I had heard it had changed a LOT with the addition of gambling. I’m just wondering if the saloon still had the head of “Potato Creek Johnny” in his glass jar above the bar? Cheers

What the nice lady’s in the saloon were talking about . That’s happening in my town right now . Californians buying everything for crazy amounts of money . Even the rentals then complain on the town page on Facebook that there is nobody to pour their stupid fruity drinks at the restaurants. They ran them off when they jacked their rents to two stacks a month .

It's definitely unfortunate to see, and is happening all over the country. The fact that potential employees can no longer afford to live locally is surely an issue. Keep the fruity drinks in CA 😂
