Thanks i lived there as a kid 50 years ago now, 56 Lengakiki Drive across from the Lawson Tama playing fields..1968 to 70. The huge banyan tree is gone now unfortunately..My Dad was a land surveyor and worked at Lands and Surveys Dept. Honiara is huge these days...We went to St John's school and I was also at King George 6th college just before we returned to NZ...Laurie Carroll New Zealand

I lived there 1961 - 78. Lengakiki was upward of Town Ground - opposite the G Club not Lawson Tama which was opposite No.9

81-84 for me. Correspondence schooling :) Loved it. Had a lot of friends at KG VI , our "housegirl's" (translate as good friend and live in companion to our family) sisters all went there. I also had a lot of friends out at Marist Brothers Tenaru, a couple of mates parent's were teachers out there. We used to explore Hell's Point for Guavas and head up to the Tenaru Falls to go for a walk and a swim. .

I used to live in Honiara some 40 years ago. where did we live - 3 different places. Lets see - Vavaea Ridge, Kola'a ridge above Chinatown, and Skyline drive above m'bokinivera valley. I went to KGVI school as well. Never went to Betikama but we do own a copper map of the Solomons that was purchased from Betikama!!! Beautiful artwork!! And I am not a local. I am white. My parents were missionaries for the SSEC church. And yes we were in Honiara in 1978 for Independence.

we were there in 1981- 84. We had a house above Rove, across from Tavioa above the Botanical Gardens and Prison. Guys would come running past at times, telling us they were never there. Sure enough, a few minutes later, the prison guards would come past. The prison was next to the Gardens and was not exactly secure. Prisoners would walk out and take off through the gardens to try and get away. One bloke they discovered was letting himself out on a Friday and returning on a Monday, his One Tok would stand in for him over the weekend so the head counts matched. Another got early parole and refused to leave for a month as he had not had his turn on the ride on lawn mower. I loved the Islands. Lol, I have a copper map from Betikama on my mantelpiece also. Funnily enough, despite going out there to get milk and stuff, this map came from a mate at school back in Canberra. He got it from an op-shop and gave it to me after we got back. I have never seen another Bettikama copper piece outside Honiara. I have a few of theirs. Mum has a nice Honiara Hams plaque. The Hams were an acting group, and they put on Pirates of Penzance. Mum played the piano and was stage director for the show, and they made her a really cool Pirates of Penzance copper plaque to commemorate.
