I bought a vispring herald superb 20 years ago in soft tension - it literally cured my aching back overnight and it felt like I was sleeping on a marshmallow with the sensation that the mattress was pushing up gently supporting every part of my body. It’s lasted so well but it’s time to replace it. I’m now married and need a super king size. In the 20 years, prices have gone up 5x so it’s an investment but now I’ve had a vispring there’s no alternative 😊

To Goodbed: at the approx 29:23 mark when you are testing edge support, you appear to be in a slight hammock position while on your back. Would you be in a hammock position if you were laying on your side on this bed? If so, that's not good for your back. Can you please clarify this point as I believe that as a side sleeper, I am heaviest at the hip and want to be sure that a mattress will keep me in perfect alignment in the side sleeping position, not a hammock position. Thank you.
@goodbed
@goodbed 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Elaine -- Thanks for your astute question. The slight hammocking you are noticing in that position was mostly due to the fact that I was lying directly on the edge. Beyond that though, that shot was also taken on the softer side of the mattress. If you look at 12:27, you can see a shot of me lying on my back on the firmer side of the mattress and you will see that there is definitely no hammocking. In terms of your needs as a side sleeper, you are of course correct that you want your spine to be in basically a horizontal line (parallel to the ground). You are also right that the heaviest part of your body is your hips (this is true for everyone). However the other thing to consider is that your body tends to be curvier on your side (specifically in your hips and shoulders) than it is when you're on your back. As such, you ideally want the mattress to have more give when you're on your side than when you're on your back. This allows your pointiest parts to sink into the mattress a bit -- if they don't, then your spine will be bowed upwards in those places, rather than completely horizontal. That's why I mentioned that the softer side would be an OK match for me as a side sleeper, but the firmer side would be a better match for me as a back sleeper. Stepping back from all of that though, irrespective of how I matched up on the specific configuration we tested, one inherent feature of a Vispring mattress is that it can be customized to your individual needs, including with different configurations on each side of the mattress. There are many different configurations of softness and support available (we only showed two in this video), so when you choose a Vispring of your own, part of the process is to select the configuration that best matches *your* needs and preferences -- based on your body shape, weight, preferred sleep position(s), etc. See the section at 30:16 for more discussion of this. Overall, this inherent customization feature is why we didn't spend as much time on back support "fit" in this review as we do in most of our other reviews, since your Vispring should by default be "fitted" to you from a back support standpoint. I hope that helps.

Thanks Mark! Much appreciated on all fronts, and congrats on picking out your new mattress -- I'm very glad we could be of help. In terms of choosing between Vispring vs Hastens, that's certainly what I would consider to be a good problem to have. :) Both are great mattresses that are extremely natural, highly customizable, and designed to last a long time. Apart from the aesthetic differences, which could be a deciding factor for some people, the main difference I'd focus on is that Vispring is generally going to be a better choice for people who prefer sleeping *on* (i.e., the sensation of "floating" on or above) the mattress, while Hastens is going to be preferable for people who prefer sleeping *in* (i.e., being nestled into or cradled by) their mattress. I hope that helps.

Vi Spring Mattresses are, most probably, the most body hugging and long lasting? However, the main substance is the Sp;ring, its metal and its tolerance / elasticity. The smaller the spring, the more elasticity it can proved to the Mattress. Personally, I prefer Copper or its Alloy, the height of which should not be more than an inch or an inch and a half. Yes, in a mattress there can be as many as 32,000. Of course, they are expensive: US $ 65,000 ...I have one. It is almost 20 years old, still feels as though it just came.

@goodbed
@goodbed 8 ай бұрын
Hey there! So a Vispring is going to feel totally different than a Tempurpedic. These use radically different materials and are probably at opposite ends of the spectrum. For comparison, we think that Tempur models tend to have a "hard memory foam" kind of feel, which is to say that there's a relatively firm initial contact and then a gradual relaxation as the foam softens with body heat.

I've 99% decided to buy this wonderful bed after buying a Beauty Rest about a year ago. The reason I'm already unhappy with the Beauty Rest is what Simmons euphemistically refers to as "body impression" (or what I personally refer to as sag) has sunk in to such a degree it's uncomfortable trying to reposition and my back is starting to ache. Is this something the Vispring also does to any degree? A small impression is not a problem but when it's hard to turn over, that's a problem.
@1911beauty
@1911beauty 5 жыл бұрын
Let me start by saying I had the same problem with my mattresses. I had a 2 s brands and a MF house brand. The last s brand was ok. Mind you MF replaceed my clean mattress 3 times. They all softened. I went to Bloomingdale's and bought an old fashioned shifman with 12.5 gauge coil and put a toper on it, I sleep like a dream. Myattress has only cotton and steal in it. I have had it since 2017 and I sit on it watching TV, I read in bed, I spend most of the time at home in bed. It has not softened or sunk even a little. It has an 8 way hand tied box spring base. It would be too firm without the topper. However, last fall I went to place in Illinois that custom makes beds and purchased a similar bed for 1100. If I had known about them, I would have saved 3000. I purchased a mattress with comppressed cotton batting on both sides,2 in of latex, and 12.5 bonnell spring unit. It's in the guest bedroom. It has an a thinner topper and is a bit more comfy without the topper than my shifman. The shifman is a tank. All in all, know that it's not you. The mattresses are garbage. But Everytime you go in to the mattress store, they will make u feel like it's you. But trust me, it's lots of folks. A good mattress shod last a moderate weight person 20 years with proper flipping and rottating. A mattress made of natural materials should feel harder over time, not softer. All mattress materials should be flipped and rotated to allow the material to come back. A 2 sided, Latex, cotton, wool, tufted straight thru, and a 12-13 gauge steal coil is your best bed. Moister should not break a mattress made of natural materials down like the s brands claim. A good wool mattress cover with a good cotton sheet should be plenty to keep ur mattress clean. A mattress should be stripped once per week and new linens out on. It'd best to add comfort layers on your own. When they fail, which they will, you CSN always add new ones with out buying a whole mattress. If it's soft now, imagine what it will be in 1 year, a 🌮. Don't believe the hype. Mattresses are a money making Bonanza

@goodbed 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mitchell -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed this earlier. The less expensive Vispring models are still going to be of excellent quality. Depending on the model, they will share many of the same components, including the use of natural materials, and for the most part will share the same level of craftsmanship. In general, the differences as you go up in the line is that you get *more* of those signature components that we showed in the video -- eg, more horsehair, more coils, etc. So while they have much in common, the experience undoubtedly becomes more quintessentially Vispring as you move up to the higher levels in the line. I hope that's helpful.

@@hastensavoir7782 Not sure, the Vispring dealer near me said he doesn't suggest the toppers because he doesn't think they add anything. Pretty sure Vispring beds are designed without a topper in mind so I'm not sure if I would say the Vispring is missing something because it comes in fewer pieces than others. I do think there are some benefits to having part of the comfort layers in a separate topper though: more consistent feel over the mattress tufts, easier to spot clean, easier to rotate or flip, cheaper to replace eventually. On the other hand a topper can move around under the sheet a lot and not all have baffling or tufting so the materials can move around in the topper and become uneven.

on the same level as Hastens?? Both have similar materials they use Horse tail and Wool
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. There are certainly many similarities between these two brands. For starters, both embody very high-quality, old world craftsmanship. And as you pointed out, both make extensive use of natural materials, including more unique and expensive natural materials like horse tail. That said, there are some important differences that you can best appreciate by watching our equivalent review of the Hastens, which you can find here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/hastens-mattress-review/ At the very highest level, one key difference between these two product lines is on the feel. Hastens beds will tend to offer more of a nestled-into-the-bed sensation, while Vispring beds tend to offer a very unique floating-above-the-bed sensation. Like other "feel" characteristics -- see our 3 F's framework for how to choose a mattress here: www.goodbed.com/best-mattresses/ -- there is no universal better or worse to this particular difference. Rather, this is purely a matter of personal preference. I hope that's helpful.

GoodBed considering those 2 feels “Nestled-into-the-bed vs “floating above the bed” sensation, which would you say would feel/response better if I change positions a lot during sleep?? I’m also a side/stomach sleeper.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 жыл бұрын
@@hastensavoir7782 As explained in the article I included in my original response, what we call "cushioning depth" is a "feel" characteristic, which means it's one of the 4 characteristics of a mattress that are entirely preference-based. So, strictly speaking I wouldn't necessarily consider either one to be more suitable for you based on what you've told me. That said, I would say that while side sleepers might lean slightly toward a nestled sensation, stomach sleepers have a more clear tendency toward the floating above sensation. And the 'ease of repositioning,' a related but separate criteria, will probably be a tad better on the Vispring. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed
@goodbed 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is certainly a strong reaction to hand-tufting! FWIW, I can't really think of a clear downside to the hand-tufting shown here versus machine-tufting. Perhaps you are referring to functional tufting versus decorative tufting? But if so, once again there is not a clear downside that I can think of to the functional tufting shown in this video. If, however, you are referring to simply the presence of tufting at all versus, say, a smooth-top or unquilted mattress, then I can see a possible downside, as some people do prefer a mattress without any surface undulations. That said, on that front I would note that the surface undulations here are barely noticeable, if at all, once you are lying on the mattress, and I don't recall being able to feel the tufts when sleeping on the mattress either. I hope that's helpful.
