Question about mid-tone busy areas - are you saying that you apply charcoal lightly and generally over the whole area up to the lights? Then, at the right time do you go back in and make small value adjustments in the busy mid-tone area? Thank you, Paul, for the video.

I am saying you can, yes, if you're not needing to preserve the whiteness of the paper for the values inside the area. Easier on brown paper or in paint. However, the goal is to not get lost in all the little data when getting the big impression downs. The more everything you do is like as you go the better of course but the big things get our early focus including big masses vis each other. Clear?
