Named after the Greek symbol of efficiency, Eta is designed to be capable of speeds in excess of 140/km/hr. With it's aerodynamic shell giving it 100 times less drag then a modern car, the ultra-efficient design makes Eta capable of exceeding highway speeds using less than 1 horsepower.

Are these speed results normalized in any way for wind speed, i.e. by having airspeed recorded onboard? If not then beating the previous record by 2 mph doesn't mean much without precisely accounting for local wind.

+Flohpange the wind speed for any legal run has to be very low, 328 ft/min (1.66 m/s) . Pretty much if you can feel the wind, the run is not legal. The wind speed is measured at the speed trap, not on board.

@@victorragusila7519 Precisely, the WISIL folks take the Battle Mountain event very seriously when it comes to controlling for conditions. The road was very carefully chosen after an enormous amount of scouting, for flatness, and wind behaviours.

1 second in to the video and I know how they can win a lot of weight. Just by opening a window in the wind shield and getting rid of those video screens.

+merlinoner aerodynamics are much more important than weight. Windows are tricky to see thru, and make the aerodynamics worse. Weight matters, but not as much. Generally, cameras end up being better due to aero and reliability.
