My father played tenor sax in bands. After my mother passed away, he lived alone in his home. He would turn this song to full volume on his stereo and tell me that it brought tears because he felt that Gato had captured so much emotion in it. When one of my sons got married last year, the dj unexpectedly played this track and I felt my dad's presence surrounding me.

I lived on the west coast of the Big Island of Hi in the early 90's, building mega custom houses, and the DJ (back before they played a garbage list of 5 songs) would sign off his show everyday at a few minutes to 6pm with this song. I made sure that all my boys left before me so I could drive back into Kona, and cry like a baby while watching the sun set into the ocean! listening to this song, either , Carlos or Gato!!! 30 years later, it still makes me cry!

I remember this song as the lead-in for "Philadelphia After Dark"", on WJJZ 106.1 FM Philadelphia in the late 80's. Michael Tozzi was one of the DJ's back then, one of the classic radio voices of our area and era. This video is so evocative, I have been to many cities in Europe, but have never been to Riga, a city that was so torn by The War and Soviet occupation, but it has arisen from all that strife, and seems so much for the better. This makes me want to go there some day...
