This is a tremendous performance! Liszt was very faithful in his transcriptions of orchestral works, and I've always been of the opinion that "Danse Macabre" was one of his very best. Thank you Vitaly!

I wouldn't have said anything if you had cited certain pianists I am enamored of, but the one you recommended isn't one of them. She can play as well as anyone, but vi- sually she leaves me cold. She lacks that "IT" factor that this pianist has that few possess, and ranks in this re- gard among the greatest virtuosi I have ever witnessed.

I love this. He creates different atmospheres for the different sections, something which even the greatest pianists don’t do well enough, IMO. And this is an orchestra so it demands it. I also find that this Hess rendition is much more tasteful than the Horowitz, as much as we all adore Horowitz.
