The Lucca and Aulla had Aln.990 3xxx, then Aln 663 with Aln 668.3xxx. At speed, I wouldn't spot the difference from the 1500 series! I travelled on a 1500 series in Sicily about ten years ago and it felt like a vintage experience, although there were some in northern Italy as well.

Ah thank you....I will research the differences. Now it is all Pesa ATR 220s....maybe nicer for the regular passenger, but not as fun! I travelled the line not long after Aulla Lunigiana station opened. Not as convenient for the town, and it was sad seeing the old station abandoned (even if the old line was not very easy operationally).

They can be digital, but I stay with analogue. I would rather spend the the money on more locos and coaches ;-) . I do use a Gaugemaster controller with brake simulator / inertia, which makes trains more interesting to drive.
