Apparently, the traction avant almost brought about the demise of the Citroën company, and brought about the terminal demise of Andre Citroën. Michelin subsequently took over the company.

Both fabulous - as was the next generation of pure Citroen magic - the CX. I had a CX Prestige 2400 EFI - 5 speed with leather. Same wheel base, suspension & brakes (disguised with a normal brake pedal instead of mushroom button). Power self centring steering, rotating drum speedo & tacho, finger tips pods for the controls, concave rear window that used aerodynamics to self clean.... footrests, headrest, sunblinds and rear door sunvisors for pampered rear seat passengers. A faster, quieter more sporty DS that came of age and died eaten away by rust in the Series I CX.... Brilliant yet again... as was the little GS - An Ami8 that mated with a CX....

The GS is a superb small car- I don't own one but a friend has one and let me drive it- it's a combination of the D and the 2CV. I'd buy one but my garage is full of Tractions.

As an 19 year old the Slough built Lt 15 big boot was my daily driver and that steering wheel and dash were way ahead of their French built cars

André Lefebvre was not the designer of Traction and DS : he was Flaminio Bertoni ( so designer of the 2cv). Do you know that Traction from 1934 to 1957, Ds from 1956 to 1966 and some 2cv for uk market was produced in Citroën plant of Slough?
