AMD drivers and Davinci Resolve dont like each other. My 7900XTX crashes on the color tab. Neither AMD or Black Magic Studio seem to have an answer.

Blender 3.6 now supports HIP and HIPRT for AMD cards, which is equivalent to Nvidia's CUDA and Optix. From my testing, 7900xtx's blender performance should be somewhere between 3080Ti and 4070Ti depending on the scenes. The Benchmark tool doesn't appear to utilize the latest accerlation from AMD.

So far I've loved my 4070ti. It's been better than my 3070ti for editing and reminds me of my 1080ti from back in the day. Funny enough, I paid close to the same amount for the 4070ti that I did for the 1080ti. I think the biggest issue really is Nvidia's model numbers are really all over the place and it's hard to tell which card belongs where.

Been using my 6900xt for over a year with DaVinci Resolve Studio even for bigger projects without issue. Though I must honestly say that I work mostly with raw, not h264/h265. Those 16GB of vram are very helpful. Most footage comes from 6k and I output DCI4k. Love my AMD system

How about editing the new 8k features on s24 ultra & the Sports cameras GoPro (13?) Avoid an "F" Intel CPU. They don't have igpu. Intel's igpu(quick sync) is very important for video editing. And if anything happens to your GPU, you'll be able to use the PC, with your CPU because of the igpu Get a 14500 or 14600k

I think the graph of performance in davinci resolve divided by price of the card would be the best to see what is the best card. I feel like 4060 Ti 16GB is still something I could have money for, but 4070 seems maybe better but the price seems just so big...... for me

It depends on the specifics of what application, what codec/type of footage and how heavy your FX use is. I have been testing a 3060, 4070, Arc A770, 6800 XT and 7800 XT in Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve Studio with a 13900K (iGPU enabled) and while the 7800 XT had the highest overall scores in both applications (with the Arc A770 having the fastest h.264 decode in Premiere Pro 23) I haven’t had a chance to test the 7700 XT or 3070 Ti specifically. Going off of my own testing in conjunction with Puget Systems testing, I would say that unless your projects are normally bottlenecked by the amount of GPU fx processing, I would probably opt for the 7700 XT (especially given the extra VRAM if you edit 8K on Resolve Studio). But if it were me, I would save up the extra $50 if possible to get a 7800 XT since it has higher performance and more VRAM and offers for more for the money.

I plan on doing a budget video editing computer build. I plan on using free version divinici resolve and doing basic 4k video edits for talking head youtube videos. Is the 3060 Ti better than the 3060 with 12GB of ram? Seems weird that the 3060 ti costs more but has less vram. The rep at microcenter recommended the 4060 with 16 g of vram. But after your videos, I know to stay clear of the 4060s. I do not game so thats not a factor.

RTX 3060 with 12GB of ram is better. But note that free version of Davinci Resolve does not use GPU for h264/h265 encoding and decoding. So your timeline playback will be choppy. The only workaround is to generate proxy or optimized media files.

Since you are a mac-user, I would recommend getting a M2 or M3 Macbook Air with preferable 16GB RAM. You could also get a mac-mini and use existing monitor & keyboard and save some money. The new M2/M3 Macbooks are really fast when it comes to video editing

Isn't all this misinforming people. What might be a piece of shit to one person doesn't necessarily mean a piece of shit to another. Everyone has different needs/use cases and budgets they want to spend. In the context of video editing then obviously a $400 or whatever 4060 card is not going to perform anywhere near like a $2000+/$1000+ RTX 4090/7900 XTX, whilst also being extremely high wattage cards in comparison. There are lots cards on the market to suit everyones needs and they shouldn't be labelled good or completely shit, and a complete waste of money.

I've been using DaVinci for 5 plus years and I'm contemplating of giving Blender a spin to add a notch to my game. I'm currently running a 3080Ti. A new up to date card should get me a few performance points and drop the power consumption a bit too. AMD's Blender performance is way behind, and there's no way in heck I can even consider a 4090 with their sky high prices so I'm going to sit still for a moment at least till the end of the year to see how this game shakes out.
