I agree. I hope we can also get to the point where the reverse is true. A YTber who was white with straight hair had to remove her video that was similar, because she tried braids and braid outs from a natural hair creator, and was shamed and attacked. She wasn't appropriating anything, simply doing what Viv did here. Hair could bring us together, not divide us, we could all have fun learning from one another. It might help us see we are more alike than different. I love what Viv does. You can't help but smile watching her, we all need that too.

I guess it is just hair weaving. I would apply some of these to friendship bracelets with embroidery thread or paracord or even try it with willow twigs to make a decorative something or other to glue to something else. I wonder if anyone has tried Chinese or Celtic knotwork on the hair using pins ?

BUT showing these braids on natural hair shows whether you want to even waste your time on these hairstyles. Shrinkage is SO realllll and it is often hard for me to know what styles to even attempt. I hate to have to resort to heat, but end up doing it becauz not too confident in styles for hair w shrinkage. So I LOVE her doing styles on her natural hair, even thought it is not in it's natural state in this braid tutorial.

I'm white and my hair is curly (2A/2B I think?) and there's no way I can do any but the regular 3 strand braid or a rope braid unless my hair is either wet or I've straightened it. If I don't it turns out halfway between the blonde woman and viv's results. Oh and when you truly straight hair, you actually have to things to ADD texture, so the strands don't just slip right out of the braid you just spent so long putting in.

When my hair was long (mid-thigh) I loved doing 5 strand braids, but I couldn't do fishtail or 4 strand braids to save my life.

My hair is only about 26-28 inches and sometimes I can't stop it braiding itself at the bottom! annoying when that creates tangles stressing out your ends and you only have one hand free to undo them whilst trying not to lose the braid you started with the other hand!

I think pancacking started for people with thin hair that needed to make it look like it had more volume but it’s also useful for making the braid more even as you go down toward the ends, I’ve found.

@@mom23js tbh, I think it started online. At least, I'd never heard the term until I started watching youtube braiding tutorials. For the most part, it's a technique to use on straight hair or very thin hair. It is generally just to make braids look more voluminous. I tend to just skip this step in most tutorials.

I have watched a ton of braiding videos and I’m not sure what it is but for some reason it’s clicked in this video how to do some of these more complicated braids than it ever has before even though I only have wavy white girl hair. You have a good way with your words and how you show it which makes the hand motions make sense and I really appreciate that. Also hot water for life.

3:06 i just want to be sure you know that naturally straight hair cant be braided all the way to the ends the way textured hair can. it just falls apart before you can even get an elastic on it. Thats why ppl w straight hair have long tails at the end of every braid. and dont even get me started on layered straight hair. half the braid has to just be the tail. its ridiculous.

Yup, one reason I HATE layers in my fine, thick, slippery straight hair. One of my kids has the same, the other actually looks great with layers! They both have straight hair, but layers has more texture and body. Lawyers make my hair just look uncared for and grown out.

I taught myself how to do a 5 strand braid on a whim while I was bored in church 😂. It’s a lot easier if you think about the pattern of a 3 strand braid. It’s the same concept but with more strands (clearly lol).
