Thanks for this. This is a great song and its cool to hear it straight from the songwriter. The Def Leppard version features some of the bands most incredible harmonies and it remains my favorite version of this track. Vivian was great in this performance though.

The Euphoria album came out in 1999. But the late 90s were rough on bands trying to find their way out of the endless cycle of that era. So many new styles of music were on the charts and on the radio back then. The late 90s were the identity crises era for many bands hanging over from the 80s. Metallica, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Poison, Warrant, etc. I really think if DL had released Euphoria in 2005 or after, it would have faired better. It's my favorite album, and this is my favorite DL song.
@omecool207 жыл бұрын
yep, I have to agree .... it is a good compliment to Hysteria, Adrenalize .. listening to those 3 albums, the songs would really compliment each other ... Slang was a good alternative DL album imo.. I loved it as well..

I think it came out at the right time… They experimented with slang in 1996 which sold less than 400,000 copies… Euphoria came out in 1989 and sold over 600,000 copies including a top 40 hit in promises and a number five radio hits with paper sun and number 12 radio hit with day after day… 1999 was basically the tenure cycle for the late 80s bands… Or for melodic rock for that matter.. it was the right time to do it… Kiss came back with make up in 1996 Mötley Crüe got back together with Vince Neil in 1997 poison was back playing in front of 10,000 people again Van Halen briefly got back with Dave Lee Roth etc. I think their mistake was releasing goodbye as a commercial single… Paper sun would’ve been a nice commercial video… When you consider paper sun Reached number five on the rock charts without even being a commercial single…

A Great Song from a Great Album by Def Leppard. I didn't know Campbell had a decent voice.

@Jackie That's right, excellent voice and excellent guitar player.

I would have to def agree with you slang was the best album lep had done since high an dry. an with the new line up it has been the best album by far. an it is very under rated. there were so many songs on that cd that could have been a single. they just never pushed the CD enough.
@kimberlydink14 жыл бұрын
better than the original europhia version... by far.. lovely :)
@mikeystarr12032 жыл бұрын
Do you for your version is not the original version… Vivian Campbell wrote this with his side band clock before euphoria… Def Leppard liked the song and borrowed it and leppardized it

Mutt Lange contributed on that album as a song writer on two songs, he wasn't the porducer, Euphoria album is the result of what they learned with mutt on Hysteria-pyromania albums where mutt colaborated as a producer and song writer, Euphoria is a good album very influenced by hysteria adrenalize days, i Love slang album and the rest of them.

I have his "Clock" CD they did this
@pimpmasterpercy15 жыл бұрын
yes i have the clock version. belive it or not its pretty much the same. This is identical to the leppard version it just doesnt have the backing instruments.
@Slaughter7012 жыл бұрын
@leoppard72 This is the original, then def leppard record that song!
@urth2leesha15 жыл бұрын
I find it different from Lep. The guitars are much more amped in the Lep version, to be expected. Clock has PJ playing the piano--it's softer. And I am totally biased, but I heard Lep's first, then Clock's and thought--*that* is how it's supposed to be!
@fuckinuniqueusername14 жыл бұрын
@oceans20113 nope. it's from euphoria. and i prefer viv's version of it. and yes, slang is a great cd, their best in my opinion
@blacklawlessd15 жыл бұрын
Of course the guy has plenty of money, he is doing what so many other people have done before him. Say they make no money from a song before performing it themselves. If the song isnt well recieved it make it look like there is a good reason for not making money from it. If its is well recieved then they look like an unrecognised genius!! Stevie nicks has done it, Richard thompson, Ritchie Sambora all have used this trick........
@mlr587615 жыл бұрын
Def Leppard's version is nice, but Viv's version is better. So full of emotion.
@pimpmasterpercy15 жыл бұрын
Def leppard in general after the slang album sounds like bryan adams. just bout everything off the euphoria an x album could have been done by bryan adams. when love and hate collide. two steps behind an miss u in a heart beat are all very bryan adamsish. ever since they mellowed out joe has had that style of dirty singing voice like bryan adams.
@youxxmar3 жыл бұрын
Adams plagio def leppard with mutt lange
@mikeystarr12032 жыл бұрын
They sounded like Bryan Adams on Adrenalize L O L… Don’t confuse paper Sun or a day after day or disintegrate or kings of oblivion from the euphoria album with Bryan Adams
