Dio's best work was with Vivian Campbell. That could be the reason for Ronnies bitterness towards Vivian. Vivian is his Randy Rhodes and could never again duplicate what Vivians guitar abilities brought to his first two albums. They were EPIC!

Absolutely! I saw that band on all three tours....Holy Diver, Last in Line and Sacred Heart. Ronnie screwed up by not paying that band what they were worth. By Sacred Heart, from what I understand, he wasn't communicating as much and you could definitely tell by the live shows they all were ready to go separate ways.

Vivian was probably the only guy besides a Gary Moore ish player who could pull off the Sykes stuff, he also has fantastic vibrato . Very physical player like Sykes

This IS actually from '91. I have this whole concert/seminar on VHS, and in the video there's a reference made concerning Pee Wee Herman jokes. And the Pee Wee Herman Scandal didn't happen until the Summer of '91. The whole performance is Top Notch, Btw.

They were the first band to introduce pop hooks and melody into music with the exception of maybe Van Halen. The sunset strip metal scene might have taken off anyway but I'm sure a lot of the music would have been different. Just do a bit of research. Maybe saying Def Leppard made Whitesnake is going a bit far but just about every pop metal band has followed in the blueprints of Pyromania. I mean, before Pyromania there was nothing of it's kind out there.

Say what you want, but Vivian is an amazing player. Check out his work in Sweet Savage too!!! He has a similar versatility to Brian May from Queen and if that's not a compliment then I don't know what is. Ronnie lost out by firing him in 1985 and as a Dio fan/customer I think I have a right to say that. As the saying goes, the customer is always right. I always heard Ronnie say that what the fans think is what matters most, so don't bash me. Either Ronnie meant that otherwise why did he say it.

Seen so many covers of this song. Most times the guitar players are quite proficient. For some reason they "feel" wrong. Jimi played from inside his soul. His guitar and amp were like his fingers or his arms, a part of his body. In this one the drummer and the bass player are horrible. Viv is good but Jimi was a "one off" and when you cover him you come off sounding empty.

Nah, they're about equal I'd say. Rhoads is way overrated. Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest was the best guitarist from that era. Then Yngwie, Gilbert, Satriani, Vai and those guys came along with some sick shit. Shawn Lane was the best of them all though. Guthrie Govan would be the best all-round player now I guess!
