As I read the lyrics of the song, It is so smart for umji to sing it in a perspective of the person who left rather than the person who got left behind. Who would’ve ever thought that the lyrics that is originally written as a perspective of a person who got left behind can be also be interpreted as the painful feeling that the person who left felt. I saw lots of lemon cover but umji’s cover impacted me the most. It is unique for a singer to interpret a song in a different way yet you can feel its connection to the original. As we all know, the original song lemon was interpreted as the point of view of a person who got left behind as if saying that “It’s heartbreaking that you are gone now” or can also be interpreted as “mourning” but umji interpreted it in a way that everyone would be able to know what the person who left truly feels. You can clearly see how she highlighted it. It was so heartbreaking. Isn’t it fascinating to know the perspective of the person who left? People never ignored the fact that the person who left is hurting but the feelings of a person who got left behind are commonly highlighted so seeing this different side of perspective is interesting. This song cover reminds me that it’s not always the person who got left behind are hurting, it’s painful for the person who left too and I think umji expressed the interpretation she wanted to show to everyone successfully. I also wanna praise umji’s effort to make this song cover! From the music video to hair and make-up, she worked really hard in participating not just for the song cover itself but the scenes behind the video.
