First of all, I watch your channel for you and your fun personality. I don’t care if you are upstairs, in the rec room or anywhere else. Your enthusiasm for sewing is contagious. Love all your new fabrics and can’t wait to see your makes with them. Can’t wait for construction videos. Love them. I agree with you about Simpllicity patterns, they are always my first choice

Since I started sewing again I’m obsessed with patterns and fabric. Just looking at them gives me a lot of pleasure. I love your videos and your natural, down to earth attitude. I don’t care if you wear a prison dress or your jammies, it’s you that is important. I like New Look and Simplicity patterns. Haven’t tried Vogue yet. I recently made a top by Butterick, I didn’t enjoy sewing it, I won’t use the pattern again. It fitted but i donated it to a charity shop. It’s all good fun though isn’t it?

Hi from an equally grey UK. Sunshine tends to spark my sewing creativity so I’m missing my mojo at the moment. The fabrics are lovely and they bring the sunshine back with all those fun florals. We don’t have rec rooms here, unless you’re rich. Houses tend to be much smaller and new builds are getting smaller still. It’s quite depressing. They do feel very squashed. Our 1970s houses had the most room and big windows for lots of lovely light for sewing. Now it’s all small rooms and windows to prevent heat loss etc. Sorry that was a bit of a diversion. Re the patterns, I have most simplicity and New Look but I also like Butterick. I think New Look used to be our cheapest patterns, but I always found them a bit large….especially the knit ones, which seemed to have been designed for wovens then unsuccessfully converted 😁. I do use Burda occasionally and the odd Burda magazine which we can get here from newsagents. I too love the older patterns, and often they fit me better (after adjusting for sizing which was different then). The illustrations always inspire me more, particularly compared to the new pattern photos on the Big 4 which I think are dire, and only give one view, often badly. Sorry for the rambling. I love your videos. They’re brightening up a gloomy autumn.

Yes, please! More construction videos! I’m coming back to garment sewing after many years away, and boy, have things changed! I’m newly semi-retired, using a Vintage Bernina 932 Record. I have SO benefited from your videos and your wealth of knowledge. I want to add a heavier-duty machine for sewing canvas and vinyl, so I would LOVE to see your Vintage Kenmore(s) since they are such good machines. Thanks again for helping me get back to where I want to be!!

you look so great!!!, that first fabric is so perfect for a sleeveless dress and I think you would wear it so much. I sewed a cowl neck and a dress without a pattern.

Oh Viv, you crack me up! 😄😄 I also tell myself not to buy that fabric, or look at that sale, then I disobey myself as well! I also think buying fabric is sometimes exploring a different side of yourself - that a fabric may become a garment that is more elegant or more adventurous than you have worn before and that is a tantalising prospect. Re fave pattern companies - Very Easy Vogue gets my vote as I find the fit is good on my frame and the instructions are always clear and easy to follow. Thanks for a fun video. Keep on sewing!

Yes...we called it the rec room. You've been up close to the red sofa for years...so you know what's wrong with it. From my perspective it looks lovely! I don't have a favorite brand of patterns. Rec Room, yes , I heard that all the time.! Love the fabric!. Those bright colors are delightful. I've been drawn to those warm shades lately too! Reminds me of McCartney's Coming up like a flower. Those yoke pants..you could make the yoke out of a stretchy fabric like spandex or a wide elastic type fabric and it would lay flatter. Patterns look comfy and when they have full wardrobe nice extra. My fav. Was the dress with or without ruffle though. Less ruffles use less fabric though 😄.

Hi Viv, I just watched your video, so I looked in my pattern boxes and found that I have quite a variety of patterns. I probably have the most Simplicity, Butterick and New Look. I'm always so inspired to sew when I watch your videos and I to am a fabric collector. Lately, I've been collecting fabric from Fabric Mart. Regarding patterns - I have owned a Lutterloh Pattern system for many years, so I'm into making my own patterns from it as I have such a hard time fitting myself with the Big 4. The Lutterloh books have been sitting on my shelf for years. This is the first time I have really used them. So far so good. I am inspired again to sew for myself. I have finally had some fitting success. Makes me HAPPY! Vicki

I like your gray dress, which looks comfortable. Your new fabrics will make nice looking clothing. I like older sewing patterns versus the newer variety. Mine usually center around 1980-2000. My newest pattern was recently purchased at Joanne and it is a jumpsuit that will have the legs modified to a comfort leg width instead of slender. I wore a red jumpsuit in the 80's that had the comfort leg width and it was so comfortable. Red is my favorite color so I have some material to make a jumpsuit later. My favorite sewing pattern is Vogue. I like McCalls and Butterick patterns too since they have the styles I adore and they fit my body without too many alterations to the pattern. Thank you for sharing and happy sewing!

I had so much fun watching this episode, Viv! I don’t think I’ve “talked” to my I-pad screen as much and laughed! Ok, here goes…Yes, we called our finished basement a “rec room” (I was born in ‘56 and my Dad had our basement finished in 1963; Although I can’t say gray is your color, I do appreciate a comfortable dress and no matter what, you should wear it!; I love the lavender ombré sweater set you created using two separate patterns. Combining patterns to make “Frankenstein” garments is a favorite technique of mine. I love sweater sets, too! (Remember, I’m a product of the 50’s and 60’s! ; I love challis as much as you do, it seams, but it is frustrating to go on a site and find they have no “challis” only to discover that they’ve named it something else! As if fabric shopping on-line wasn’t difficult enough (I’m a pretty tactile gal.); I envy you for all your wonderful treasures (aka, vintage patterns.). My favorite? Mom always was a Vogue pattern seamstress, but I have to say I was Butterick/McCall’s girl until things started to change in the Big 4 pattern industry. Now it’s mostly Simplicity! ❤️

Vivian, I LOVED your Rec Room Video. I remember rec rooms. . . The lighting looked fine to me. And you should be able to wear whatever you want around the house!! Be comfortable. I have recently organized my patterns into drawers like they do at the fabric stores. I noted that I have loads more Simplicity than anything else. Next is Butterick, then McCalls and things like Vogue and Burda. A regular (letter sized) file cabinet holds two rows perfectly of all but the McCalls. They are just a bit too wide, but I made some drawers for them in one of my cupboards. I think the shrug on 3569 Simpliity is to wear over the little tank top to keep your arms warm until you go to bed. It is kind of unusual. Maye it came out when shrugs were getting popular a few years back. I just love your videos. . . . I think that you have a great shape! Long legs, great arms and shoulders, pretty smile, sparkling eyes and lovely hair. No, I am not gay!! I've been married for 41 years to the love of my live. I just think that you look great and shouldn't apologize for anything. I'm kind of glad you don't have a tiny waist, because it makes you a real person. You pronounced :"challis" correctly. (shallee). Some day I am going to get over to Pennsylvania and visit Fabric Mart. It is on my bucket list. Now that hubby is retired, we can start planning! Thanks for all the great videos. They are just right for me! Kathy B. P.S.. I really like cutting out now, although I didn't used to when I started sewing. Now, I will cut out five or six outfits and then sew. I put them in an individual plastic "shoe-box" after cutting, along with the pattern and then go on to the next. when I have five or so shoe-boxes, I start sewing.

Favourite patterns are Simplicity, then Vogue (Very Easy ones), then Butterick. Currently working on V1634 (wish me luck 🤞) I agree with you about Etsy being horrendous for pattern purchases. Not sure who's in the market to pay those inflated prices. I grew up calling the basement space the Rumpus room. That's vintage for you!

But I am learning about fabric and matching it to patterns from your haul videos. On a side note, I must confess (please don’t take offense) that the first video I watched I thought “has this chick been DRINKING?!!” Haha. I only tell you this so we can laugh at my own flaws in judging my sister in Christ. Plus, I thought it would be something to laugh at. Love ya Viv.
