This is really awesome, I love wearing minimal sandals in the summertime but my feet really suffer when I go back to regular shoes in the winter. These could be a great option for me, thanks for the review! I especially appreciate that you used them for a while before reviewing :)

I have 4 pair of Vivo: 2 Gobi, 1 Tracker FG and 1 Primus Lite. My first pair of BF shoes was Feelmax and they still do the job. I completely switched to BF for over 2 years and I have become a real fanatic.

That’s awesome! Yeah all of my shows minus one pair of dress shoes are BF now. It’s hard to find a good pair of dress shoes that don’t look too goofy.

@@DansVoyage The Carets Oxford does a really great job of looking the part of a dress shoe while having barefoot shoe comfort, only let down a bit by the sole material. The Birchbury Brenston and ZAQQ BRIQ also don't look bad, targeting a slightly less formal derby style, but I can only vouch for the Carets since I don't have the others.

I live in Canada, I own the women's Fulham ( Chelsea type boot). I keep the thermal insole in but I do not need heavy socks with them. I can wear a thinner cotton 'sport' sock or a very thin sock that has a tiny bit of wool in it and synthetic. So for everyday street wear I don't find you need an extra heavy or thermal sock. Perhaps if temperatures really dropped and you were walking extensively then a thin thermal sock might be necessary. These were my first pair but definitely not my last. I will be changing over all of my footwear to Vivobarefoot shoes. They feel so much better in every way.

Hey I'm a strength and conditioning coach, have 4 pairs (a vibram fivefingers, lems, xero and vivo) doing some research O theory and practice 😉. If you wanna rehab your feet (flexibility, balance and strength) need to use only bearfoot or functional footwear.

All of my 10 pairs of shoes are barefoot shoes, 6 pairs of them Vivobarefoot. I think the necessity depends on the climate you live in, we have winters with down to -17C(0F) and summers with up to 30C(86F) and I need a variety of different types shoes.

Great point Marianne! I have been looking for a great pair of barefoot hiking boots that are waterproof lately. Do you know of any boots out there like that?

@@DansVoyage I have Vivobarefoot Magna Trail that are completely puddle proof, but maybe too low for my liking. I really liked the Xero Daylite Hiker too, but the sizing was off for me and I didn't want to bother with exchanging for a smaller size (customs tax etc bc I'm in Europe). I hear the Feelmax Kuuva 5 are great but they have had some quality issues and I didn't want to risk getting faulty ones.

@@mmMariannemm thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. I looked at the Magna trail like you suggested and I really like the look of them. I think vivobarefoot does the best jobs at making aesthetically pleasing shoes. I'll have to check out the Tracker FG also!

Just bought my first set of minimalist shoes. They're the z trail sandals actually. I'll never go back to regular sandals again. Next off I'm looking into trying out a set of minimalist work or dress shoes.

Nice review! I noticed you seem to be reviewing the utility variant of the Gobi II, based on its slight design changes and it being made of canvas. Do you like that better than the standard leather variant? Or does the different materials not really affect the feel?

I wonder how people can say they are not used to the feel of minimalist shoes. Don't they spend any time barefoot?
@DansVoyage
@DansVoyage 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting insight. I guess maybe just not used to the feeling all day? I like the thinking though, I've always preferred being barefoot.
@drygnfyre

Most people are probably not barefoot 24/7, so wearing standard shoes changes your gait a bit. So when you suddenly go barefoot all the time or wear minimal shoes, it changes how you walk slightly. So you need a bit of a break-in period, so to speak. But once you get used to it, wearing standard shoes probably feels weird.

Can you add the winter insoles to the warm weather version? I love mine!
@marcb1289
@marcb1289 4 жыл бұрын
I do that in my leather Gobi (warning: winter soles are slightly thicker than regular ones, particurlarly compared to the original textile soles (cok sole are thicker)). My canvas Gobi needs to be one size larger to accept winter soles (canvas is not as strechable as leather).

I have a pair of those in black and the only differences I can really see are aesthetic: elastic laces and canvas construction. The fit and feel is identical, at least to me. I also have the brown leather Gobi II, I wear both without the insoles and they feel fine.

I hate any vivo shoe. They make the collar of their high models too fucking tight and the measures are all over the place. Where in hell is a 28.3cm insole a fucking EU 43? That's more like an abundant 44
