Are you suggesting that an environmental activist Erin Brokovich, a prostitute Vivian ward, an abuse victim Laura/Sara, an actress Anna Scott, an art history teacher Katherine Watson, etc. are all same roles??? In that case, you have ZERO knowledge about cinema and acting... Just because a troll thinks that playing a real life character so brilliantly isn't challenging, that doesn't mean that Julia's performance wasn't deserving... Jennifer Connelly starred equally (if not more) in Requiem too... Also, a female character who starred the most in a movie doesn't have to be a lead in that movie... Viola Davis was the female who starred the most in Fences, still she was considered supporting character, many such examples could be given...

ALL of those movies barring SWTE has her playing either a pretty, romantic, gawky, playful or sexy role. They require nowhere near the range or difficulty Ellen (or Jennifer) had to pull off in Requiem. That leaves us with SWTE and if a 1/10 rated movie like SWTE is the hill you're willing to die on, then I think it's you that need to revise your comments. Expose yourself to films outside of RomComs. You have a very limited pallet for film if you truly believe this Jennifer Aniston-esque performance is really the deserving winner. It's also weird that an expert movie buff like yourself would put out such a laughable list, making quite a weak argument while failing to mention the one movie she was arguably at her best - Steel Magnolias - which, SHOCKER, is another comedy.

This is so rich coming from a "complex" mind of yours... 😁 Just because someone has a different opinion than yours, doesn't mean that they haven't explored films outside rom-coms, duh! Only your "complex" mind saw her playing pretty, romantic, gawky, playful, sexy on Monalisa Smile, August Osage County... Also, all these adjectives don't make a performance any lesser than a dramatic performance... Even when she played these kind of roles, she did it perfectly, better than Ellen or Jennifer could have ever managed in those roles... And if we talk about ratings of Jennifer or Ellen's films, we would get a long list of critical & commercial flops too... Its your delusion that playing a real life character so brilliantly isn't challenging or difficult... You yourself have a very limited knowledge for film and acting, to truly believe that brilliantly acted Jennifer Aniston-esque performances are less deserving winner than Jennifer Connelly-esque performances... The award is for the best performance, not for the best role, duh! Only if your "complex" mind could comprehend it...
