I know there are mods out there that allow you to have more than 8 sims in your house. I think there may even be a setting for that in the MC Command Center mod.

You have the option to unlink the mermaid form from the human form, like how you can with some other occults. It'll prevent the mermaid form from changing the swimwear

It could also be your mods. MCCC has settings for same sex pregnancies but it often means you have to choose if it's the initiator or not. And that sometimes has wacky things happen when you have that by accident and then change from default gender settings. I had the Same Thing happen and turns out I needed the other sim to initiate bc of my mods
