I particularly urged Dame Diddy (besides knowing everyone's been asking for this for a long time) to do the video last week in honor of N (at 2:54) enlisting on March 4th. Yaaay! Thank you for reacting to VIXX! They are kpop‘s concept-dols. Purple haired rapper is Ravi and also has a solo career. He just released a new song and my earlier this week, Tuxedo. And Shangri-La wasn’t the first time VIXX used a prop in their dance, they did that too with Vodoo Doll which is probably VIXX‘s most iconic and populär song, along with Chained Up. I hope you’ll get to react to more of them in the future cause VIXX‘s songs and mvs are definitely worth checking out.

If you like this video from VIXX, go check out Voodoo Doll, Chained Up, and Fantasy, especially the Drama version for Fantasy. They are a group that's been around for a little while and are called the Concept Kings for a very good reason. They are worth some extra attention.

A few others have mentioned VIXX as being the kings of concepts and some of their better known songs, so I'm just going to add that this concept was based off of the members birthstones and birth flowers and was talking about a 'dream-like state of love' combined with 'traditional Eastern vibes'. There are no English lyrics at all in the song, and they are using some traditional instruments in the music as well as wearing modern versions of hanboks and using traditional elements in their choreo. A lot of the set pieces have meanings - the golden peach, the peacock, and the deer were all part of of mythos of a lost paradise, while the planets merging were symbolizing how dreams and realities combine. The leader and main dancer N (Cha Hakyeon at 2:54) was the one who suggested to add the fans to the choreo and they went through a lot of them until they caught the trick on how to snap them open, which was especially hard for Hongbin since he's a lefty. A lot of their MVs are like movies and they are best known for dark and creepy stuff. They are more theatrical is style than normal kpop idol groups and their vocals are set up so they can handle all sorts of styles and ranges. So if you want to try some other releases: Error (cyborg), Scentist (Perfume: Story of a Murderer), Voodoo Doll (living dolls this is very gory), Hyde and G.R.8 U (Hyde and Dr. Jekyll - these two songs are interesting especially since it shows off just how easily they can switch in their concepts).

Vixx is one of my top Kpop groups. Their song Error (scifi concept) is still one of my all time favorite mvs. I hope you get to check out their other mvs-Error, Fantasy, Scentist, The Closer, Voodoo Doll, Chained Up and so on. Their sub unit of LR (Leo and Ravi is also one of my favorite sub units in all of Kpop--love Beautiful Liar, Chocolatier and Whisper. You would LOVE Leo and Ravi (they're from this group) in their video, "Beautiful Liar". It's a bit dark and is layered with symbolism and meaning. It's written from a place of heartbreak, the kind that makes you want to lash out at one you love, even as you reign yourself in. You lie to yourself for her sake. Leo also does a solo called "Blossom Tears" that will make you say, "WUT?"

As a concept, Shangri-La is an earthly paradise in which everyone who inhabits it is happy and immortal, and somehow VIXX has wanted to stage in its own way, leaving its own imprint on paradise. For this they have used a kind of decoration and colors that are not random. The intense choreography, which they interpret on the water, gives great weight to the traditional fans at the same time that tries to maximize that fantasy. The concepts (Birth Flower and Birth Stone) of his video and albums (there are 2 versions of the album) refer to flowers and certain stones. Through them the whole concept of the video has been constructed, especially the colours and backgrounds, which stand out for their cleanliness and sharpness. Shangri-La is a love song built on references to nature and with metaphorical descriptions of what it's like to be terribly in love. As expected, the music combines contemporary sound and master notes of ancient Asian instruments, so as not to lose the traditional essence already provided by the costumes. The group can be satisfied with their comeback because it was very well accepted and criticized by both the starlights and those who are not fans. VIXX once again demonstrated his talent to get out of the hackneyed concepts and predictable aesthetics and his art to stand out for its originality, or even its rarity. Always, in the best of senses.
