Neymar when he was at his very best he was one of the best players in the world and was already a superstar when he played for Santos for god sake at the age of 19 as a teenager in the Brazilian league he finished top 10 for the Ballon Dor in 2011 outside of a top 5 league in Europe and it tells you just how good he was at the time and all the top teams wanted to sign him. As soon as he made that move to Barcelona in 2013, he enjoyed 4 brilliant seasons there as he was very pivotal in a team that won the treble in 2015 as he was joint top scorer in the champions league and the following season in 2016 he was in impressive form for Barcelona as they won the domestic double and even his last season there he was unstoppable as well. He played the best football of his career at Barcelona as we saw him at his absolute peak there with his goalscoring creativity dribbling ridiculous flair skill and technique he was just that good. Despite his talent it was very obvious that at Barcelona as long as Messi was there Neymar would always be in his shadow and it was gonna be difficult for him to be seen as the best player in the world since at the time he was seen as the heir to Messi and Ronaldo and in the summer of 2017 he made a decision that changed his career and ruined his legacy and the way he’s perceived as a player. The biggest mistake of his career was leaving Barcelona for PSG as he made a move that was just too premature as yes Neymar wanted to get out of Messi’s shadow and have his own team but the reality is in terms of quality and competitiveness Ligue 1 isn’t on the same level as other leagues like La Liga or the premier league and nobody was ever gonna his flowers for his excellent domestic success at PSG no matter how well he played since fans and pundits don’t rate Ligue 1 as a top league. His greatness at PSG was always measured off of his success in the champions league and unfortunately in 6 seasons he’s only played in 1 champions league final which was in 2020 during COVID where PSG didn’t play an elite team until Bayern Munich in the final where they narrowly lost. This loss negativity impacts his legacy and if he had stayed at Barcelona Neymar would win a couple more champions league titles and who knows maybe if he showed more patience he would have a Ballon Dor to his name by now. If PSG had won the Champions League in 2020 we would probably be having a different conversation about Neymar’s career and in the game the margins are just so so small.

I give my perspective about Neymar: Neymar for me is the second best entertainer I’ve ever seen after Ronaldinho. His skills,goals,celebrations,games are just fun & impressive to watch. I remember the national game against Argentina in 2016 when he bodied just everybody from the Argentina squad. Even Messi couldn’t handle him. Like it wasn’t funny to me. My perspective of why he leaved Barça is bcs he wanted to show the ppl that he can be the boss without Messi & Suarez. Bcs he doesn’t wanted to be the shadow of Messi. I feel like ppl are so much impulsive discrediting when ppl forget of what he archived. He was a Top 10 player of the Ballon’dor as a Santos player. He carried the whole Brazil to the 2013 Confed Cup & their first Olympia ever in 2016. He putted PSG for the first in time in a CL Final in 2020. He played in Copa America Final in 2021 & the Argentinas were so fucking dirty to him. And I’m sure ppl wouldn’t say that his career failed if he won the CL with & the Copa while he won already for Brazil. Injuries were his reasons tho. For all ppl saying „He should stay at Barça. He would def win a Ballon’dor“ i say maybe. But only bcs of Suarez & especially Messi. He would be shadowed just like Xavi & Iniesta. Bcs after 2015 Barça couldn’t get it done to win more CL trophies. In terms of „plays“ they’re the best trios but by „success“ no. So in my perspective Neymar‘s career isn’t failed. He’s just discredited bcs he leaved Barça

But instead of accepting that fact and concentrating on his game to churn out titles and accolades and/or working on his conditioning so he wasn't hurt all the time, he tried to upstage Messi and Ronaldo OFF the pitch. There was always drama. Whether it was the chemistry with Messi falling apart multiple times, the €220M transfer to PSG and becoming the posterboy of PSG's flash over substance reputation, or now the €90M transfer to Saudi Arabia at just 31. Where were Salah and De Bruyne when Neymar was at the height of his brilliance at Santos and was nominated every year for the Ballon d'Or even though he did not play in Europe ? Where were Salah and De Bruyne when Neymar was at the top of his game with Barcelona and his name was written in the top 3 with Messi and Ronaldo for every major individual award ? Just because Salah and De Bruyne have performed better than Neymar in recent years does not negate the fact that Neymar is still miles clear of both
@elidia6167 Жыл бұрын
Salah & KDB might go down as the best players from the Premier League but they'll be nowhere near Ronaldo or Messi's bracket. You're talking about two individuals who have won at least 4 UCLs & 2 international titles for their country including the WC, Copa América & Euros.

Neymar would be a lot better if other footballers weren't trying to always foul him because they are afraid of his showboating and variety of skills, which is the only way to stop him. Neymar will only keep getting injured until he stops playing at a professional level.

He won everything in Europe. He doesn't need to prove anything more than he already achieved. He definitely has better career than Harry Kane.

I do think footballers play too much football. There is constant tweeking of the game to try to manage this, such as the 5 sub rule, but league seasons are long, multiple cup games and then almost constant international games. However, that said, the ever increasing wages of top level players only pushes the clubs to get more games to get more revenue. Solutions?

I used to be a Big Ney fan back when he played for Santos. The "Copa Libertadores 2011" was epic. He had everything, spped, talent, he could do whatever he wanted to do. His departure to PSG was not a good sign.

Damn the generation that were supposed to be next up after Messi and Ronaldo basically "died" this year, Pogba with his doping scandal, Hazard retired after so many injuries and Neymar just suffered the worst injury for any athlete
@jamesw3546 Жыл бұрын
Pogba was off that list years ago, in my opinion. That first spell at Juve, he was immense. But that ended in 2016. Everything from that point has been fairly average, especially considering his ability. Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo and Hazard were / are a levels above. Totally see what you mean though. He should have been one of the best. Still a world cup winner though at least :)

In the beginning people said he was falling too much, and he said he does that to protect himself. He definitely started falling less after that, and MAYBE that's why he had so many injuries.

@@emmanuelbossman9439 Because Messi makes very "simple" dribbles he never had so many problems, but Neymar, for example, wasted a lot due to injuries and Ronaldinho was losing physical power, I don't think we'll ever see a player with the skills of Neymar and Ronaldinho has the longevity of Messi, Vini Jr, for example, has already started to have injury problems (And he doesn't have as many skills as Neymar and Ronaldinho)

@alvmusic4402 Жыл бұрын
The problem is not that he didn't live up to his full potential, I understand he never had to be the next Messi but the only Neymar, it was hard to be on Messi's shadow and leaving Barcelona for PSG was a good decision if he wanted to step up to n°1. From that moment it was a 50/50 and he knew it - he made the right decision with what he knew at that moment. Personally I found it hard to support him because of his histrionics and dirty tactics, and then it became harder the further he progressed into becoming a PR machine with little results to back it up. It's not really a sad story by looking at his wallet but it's the perfect example of footballers who were so, so ready, but it's a combination of chance and choice.

I think the biggest reason Neymar shouldn’t be judged as much for his national team not winning a world cup, is the obvious fact that this is the worst Brazilian squad we have ever seen… Neymar didn’t have 2-3 greats playing with him like a Rivaldo, Ronaldo & Ronaldinho had, or Pele with Garrincha; his attacking support was Richarlison, Coutinho, Hulk, Gabi Jesus…
@aceofspoons8382 Жыл бұрын
I'm just amazed at how many serious injuries he's already been through and come back to his best. His luck was always going to run out eventually. Also, winning the Ballon D'or would've made his career a 'success', but Messi's longevity suprised everyone.
