That 40 meter converter reminds me of the Regency ham converter from many years ago with front end BFO injection for SSB on a regular car radio. It was much more complex, covered all ham bands and was the first all solid state rig for ham use. K4OF.

That converter is absolutely brilliant I've never actually seen one before and you can do all of that stuff with just a AM CB radio underneath it is just amazing I wouldn't mind seeing the sysmatic diagram to build one of my own and it would be great to just monitor the 40 meter band and the 40 meters is actually my favourite amateur radio band and I really enjoy using it. Thanks and best 73's cheers. Stephen M3SNV 73's.

The BFO was a bit touchy, but I made it work. I think maybe something maybe a little off since it is so sensitive to tiny movements. But it works fine other than that.

A transmitting converter is certainly feasible though it uses a lot more parts (incl 3 or 4 tx amplifier stages). Luckily you don't need to do any mods to the CB and it doesn't matter if you don't have documentation. A 20 MHz crystal in a converter would get you onto many popular 7 MHz frequencies.

I had bought a 20 MHz crystal to do this and was going to use one of the 20Mhz crystals from China I bought. Have you done this with a 20 Mhz crystal? Also the BFO you made is exactly on the input 7 Mhz freq correct, not on 455 KHz for the CB? Have you used a 602 IC ( mxr/lo osc chip ) to do this ever? Great project, seems we are thinking along the same lines. 73 Jimmy, ARRL TC, WX9DX

hi peter ive used one to convert 20 mhz to 70 mhz the 4 mtr band on my ft 817 with the ft817 doing most of the functions cw ssb and nbfm so far not heard anything but it works ok it uses a 602 and a 50 mhz crystal which uses a 5v supply have you got the 4 mtr band yet in Australia jim G0WMJ

if I buy a Oricom UHF180 5 watt UHF CB Radio with Remote Head, how long can the control Cable be? say I have 15 meter of coax as a run to the roof as a base station. I may lose some watts in the coax but a Radio with Remote Head can have the Tx/Rx Unit up the top of the roof , and the other Remote Head unit inside my home . so will it work? as the control cable is Not RF but data. so can I get the Full 5 watts at the antenna? have U seen the Oricom UHF180 CB?

Sorry - I'm not familiar with that model. The seller should be able to help - especially if you get it new.

You may use another receiver back to back for those who cannot build their own and it works perfectly( only thing you will have to tune to same frequency on both)

Kumaresan S Tune the same frequency on both? But you can't tune 7mhz with a 27mhz receiver. Can you expand on what you meant?

Sorry I don't build things for people. However there is a lot of training material and videos that could be handy if you wanted to learn electronics construction.

Apologies in advance, I know this is a little off topic but am looking into getting in to CB and am after a little advice. I live in NZ where AM is 26mhz and am looking at SSB radios. From what I understand you can cover greater distance with SSB so am looking at keeping in contact with family and also like the idea of potentially making contact with those across the ditch and perhaps further. To do this, do I need to go 27mhz since us Kiwis are 26mhz? Also can anyone direct me to a good CB site on the net? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I'm unaware of the current legalities of 27 MHz CB in NZ. Your government's spectrum agency should be able to help.
