Very thorough review! It's nice to see how much fun you can have on this nicely designed device. Does all your retro games, game streaming, watch videos, add extra controllers to play multiplayer games, hook it up to the tv, use as a gamepad, etc! I got this for $130!

Thanks! Definitely learned a few configuration tricks in this video! Although, there is no way this device gets a 9 out of 10 from me (bought one last week). The rounded shape is a huge plus, as the vast majority of square-shaped consoles are not ergonomic for games that utilize the shift buttons (L/R) such as first-person shooters, simply because and index finger is anatomically lower placed than the thumb, so making the L/R buttons in the same line as the D-pad - is plain uncomfortable. And if a console is shaped as square - only exacerbates this. But even with the ergonomic shape, the L2/R2 will be the naturally comfortable place for the fingers, NOT L1/R2. The games, however, will not acknowledge this. So you have to fiddle around with Retroarch options to swap between the uncomfortable L1/R1 and the comfortable L2/R2. Now, RG353P specifically has two main problems that prevent it from being in the top shelf list: first one is the sound. A lot of retro games feature high quality stereo sound, and many feature brilliant CD-based soundtracks as well, so if you play those games - you do want a good quality speakers. While the console does boast stereo speakers, - these are of very low quality, and they go into audio clipping as they reach even middle volumes. They clearly are not meant for games which have a wider dynamic range of sound. Pair that up with a questionable placement to boot. Stereo sound was one of the main reasons i bought it, and it kinda ended up as disappointment. Especially since consoles like the PSP, - which was made ages(!) ago - has a fantastic, superb sound with no issues whatsoever. Older consoles like JXD Gamepad also pass the sound test with flying colors. I was under the impression that something made in 2020's was to do that too, but - no such luck. The second issue is the emulation performance. The fact that it can go up to 64 bits problem-free, is simply not true. While it can do PSX games and the earlier stuff with ease (which is to be expected), it will have issues with 3DO games and Saturn games, making a good portion of them unplayable. So there is that too. Same with the PSP, depends on the game. It may or may not be playable. Based on that and everything else, my ranking for this system is 7/10. High points: very ergonomic, streamlined, cute, high compatibility, versatile, comes with stereo sound. Low points: poor quality speakers, unpredictable performance with games above Playstation-1. Retroarch quirks.

The problem with saturn and other consoles is not the device but it's the emulators If we have better emulators I'm sure that it will run these games with no problems And about the audio yeah the sound is not great but you can use headphones or even a bluetooth speaker
@HexenStar2 жыл бұрын
@@VKsChannel Well, regarding the emulators, - that's only partially true. On the PC only the Saturn is occasionally problematic. The 3DO games, N64 and such - run perfectly for over a decade. Handhelds couldn't even run Sega CD before the appearance of Retroarch. So it's reasonable to suggest that it the mobile versions of the emulators, not the emulators themselves. And, it could be horsepower issue as well. Got to ask a programmer as to what's up with that. As for the sound, the whole idea of such a console - is to be completely self-sufficient. Otherwise, it kinda defeats the point, but yeah i agree it's a viable workaround. Definitely legit.

Great video, thx! I just ordered the RG353P plus a good SD card. But I wonder if I could connect a N64 controller to the handheld. Would it work with a USB adapter or are there controllers with Bluetooth on the market?

If it's able to utilize two monitors at once, we definitely need a small hinged monitor to attach to it. That would make it the perfect NDS emulator. Provided they could make the touch screen work

Which is better? Rg505 or 353p?
@VKsChannel Жыл бұрын
505 is more powerful has a bigger oled screen and the battery lasts a lot longer 353P has better ergonomy with stacked shoulder buttons, it has an hdmi output but its less powerful and it has a smaller screen In the end it depends on your preferences I would still go with the 353p because of the better ergonomy and hdmi output

So ergonomically the 353p is superior?... How about game play vs the 353v? Also, the 353v has more roms pre installed 25000 vs 353p 4500....The 353v has 1 more gig of ram as well.
@VKsChannel2 жыл бұрын
Well the roms you can always download more and install And I didn't know about the extra 1Gb of ram Maybe it makes the android os smoother?
@HexenStar2 жыл бұрын
353P is very comfortable. But so is the V. It's the square-shaped ones which are the less ergonomic ones. It all comes down to how much of the shift (L/R) buttons you will be using. In a perfect ergonomic design, - these should be placed lower (as in vertically, Z-axis) than the D-pad (because that's how human hand is). In the 353P - we do have such design, but for the L2/R2 buttons - NOT L1/R1. So you'll have to find a way to switch them around in Retroarch for a really comfortable experience. In the V models, this design is even better, similar to the N64 trigger buttons. But the console has to be of a certain size for it not to feel unnaturally cramped, so that you don't bend your wrists while holding it. Obviously, the square-shaped models do not have such luxury and playing shift-heavy games (like first person shooters and such) on that - will not be a fun experience, to say the least. Finally, even if in the games you like to play - you don't use L/R buttons at all, it still is going to be vastly more comfortable to have the rounded shape to rest your index finger on these shift buttons, as opposed to the edge of the console, as is the case with the square shapes. So that's it as far as ergonomics go.
