@@magorzatadus9347Yes, watching this masterpiece multiple times is to realize that Norrington really is an honourable man who durifully upholds the law- no matter his own personal beliefs. He visibly is not d‘accord with Jack‘s eventual execution, because Jack did keep his word, and was once again punished for a good deed (like saving Elizabeth in the beginning). He also is the only one That _doesn’t_ force himself on Elizabeth (except for Will, of course) despite clearly being interested in her. He also accepts that she loves Will, and doesn’t makes advances to her again even later down the line. He does what he does with the firm belief he is bettering the life of others, and doing everything to his own personal benefit like literally everyone else.

For the record, about the after-credits scene, the curse is only on Jack the monkey. When Will put the 2 coins back into the chest, the curse effectively "reset". Anyone who had the curse was freed from it. Barbossa and any other pirates who died are still dead. The monkey taking the coin only re-cursed itself, and nobody else.

25:05 Barbossa's obsession with that apple is because, thanks to the curse they can't sleep, feel or taste anything. They are literally undead... unable to feel pleasure... This movie is a tour de force of world-class writing. Take simply the scene where Will brings the sword to the mansion. In two minutes you know EVERYTHING about the two main characters. They like each other. Neither is willing to admit it. The dad is a good dad and likes Will because he knows "his place" which also tells you he's traditional. And in the next two minutes you get to know everything you need to know about Jack. From there on it's just a wild ride. Also... The genius of Jack. Elisabeth falls from the lookout at the start of the company. He saw her fall and survive between the rocks. So, when he's escaping at the end, he trips on purpose and falls down to hit the same spot she did. Were he to jump, he'd die.

All the main characters are likeable, in some way. The governor could have been this strict, hard-nosed father, but he actually loves and wants to understand and help his daughter. The commodore has conflicts with Sparrow and Will, but he's an honorable man, and doesn't let his duty get too much in the way of that. Even Barbossa, as much of a villain as he is, is affable and sympathetic, to some extent, because of the curse.

The thing about Barbossa is that although yes he is the antagonist in this film, he is not evil. Barbossa upholds his word whenever he makes a deal, is not Cruel or despicable, he is a man although not bound by law, still lives by a code. the entirety of the movie, this man is trying to rid himself and his crew of a curse that they(him and crew) inflicted upon themselves.

Not that large of a pocket of air, no, that’s creative license. But it would be possible to have a very small pocket of air. But tilt it to the side to let some water in, and then press down again and it takes much less force to hold it underwater.

I never considered Commodore Norrington to be a bad guy. He's a good man, trying to do his job : capture pirates, what happens to them next is not of his concern, he's not the one who wrote the law that states that pirates have to be executed. Because the heroes are pirates he happens to be an antagonist but he's not plain bad

I don't know if anyone said this but: the colour change of the wig was actually not due to the character itself aging, but changes in fashion as well as him rising higher in rank as a governor. Wigs back then were also an indicator of rank and status. This is why Norrington also wears a white wig even though he is still a young(ish) man.

Just a quick correction about the end credits scene with the monkey. They fully lifted the curse at the end with Jack and Will returning their pieces to the chest. The monkey was also freed from the curse. But the end shows the curse starting over, but only on the monkey. It only affects those that take from the chest. And since the curse was fully lifted, it just restarted on the monkey when it removed one of the medallions. None of the pirates were made immortal again.

I never thought that the monkey taking a gold piece would make them all undead again. They all took the treasure, so they were all cursed. They returned the treasure, so the curse was lifted. Then the monkey takes the gold piece, so the monkey is cursed.

Black Sails is a great, although much more serious pirate TV show that is criminally unknown. It has humor too, quite a bit at times, but it's mostly about the realism and drama. It's a combination of real historical pirates and events, and a prequel to the fictional Treasure Island.

Such a great cast. These first three are amazing. If you skipped the fourth and fifth one, a lot of us would be ok with that. It's not like they suck, it's just that this series wraps up pretty nicely on the third one. Either way, thanks for sharing and bring back some good memories. 🐾🐾🍻

Yes the commander that is fawning over Elizabeth is the same one that knew her when she was like 8. Also something I noticed while watching just now. While Gibbs says it's bad luck to bring a woman on a ship it is also bad luck to bring a banana on a ship. (Jack is holding a banana)

An interesting fact about Keira Knightley. This movie and Bend it Like Beckham were the two films that was basically her big Hollywood film breakout role. Technically, one of the first films she was credited in was Star Wars when she was casted to be Padme's handmaiden who would double for her. She also had to have her mother be on set with her at all times because she was 18 at the time of filming the first Pirates film. This was because Orlando Bloom was 26 and the two of them do have kissing scenes in the movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3 is definitely one of my favourite trilogies of all time. Those 3 are masterpieces. 4 is a bit of a mixed bag, has some great stuff and bad stuff. I thought 5 was massively disappointing. Also Jack (the monkey) taking out a coin from the chest at the end only put the curse back onto himself, that didn't re-curse any other pirates or bring anyone back.

Still one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember seeing it in theaters when I was a senior in high school, also around Lord of the Rings, which is why Orlando Bloom as Will Turner stood out to me. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrows is utter perfection. Originally Jack Sparrow was just a guy with a pierced ear and a couple of rag tag clothing, but Johnny Depp came up with all the other weird stuff in his costume. And as for the drunken walk, it was based on Keith Richards from Rolling Stones.

4:00 children have always been a common sight on ships and are regularly employed as they are essential to running a ship whether they are legal or illegal (pirate) ventures. Children (10-14 yrs old) at this era (especially poor ones) are already expected to work and most get hired as cabin boys who are charged with cleaning, serving sailors, and running errands for the officers. Others are tasked as powder monkeys who roll gunpowder barrels and help load the cannons. Wealthier children are commissioned as midshipmen or navy cadets who serve under the captain and learn about becoming a naval officer. Its a different time than now but such is life for them back then,

It is an absolutely iconic soundtrack. Years back I saw a symphonic metal band called Kamelot play a concert. Mid-show, while the rest of the band took a short break, their keyboard player played the main theme to Pirates. Film scores often lend themselves really well to symphonic metal. The band Epica doing the Imperial March from Star Wars is another great example.
