You should watch any of the interviews with Jeff and Taika. They. are. UNHINGED! It's amazing! Not to mention a Matt Damon cameo and Luke Hemsworth as the actor playing Thor in the play! And Anthony Hopkins playing Tom Hiddleston playing Loki playing Odin is a masterful level of acting! Skurge (Karl Urban's character) has one of the most epic, redemptive, final stands in the comics. He gives this heartbreaking speech to one of the heroes, that he knows everyone thinks he's a big joke, and that he dies a little inside every time. He declares he will hold the bridge alone, against the armies of Hel, to buy time for the heroes to escape, asking only that they drink a toast to him later. The Hulk is a separate personality. He's been stuck as the Hulk for the last two years, but because time works strangely on Sakaar there is no way of knowing how long those two years were as experienced by Hulk. He could have been there decades. It's no wonder that he's able to talk in this movie, he's always had the ability to speak, because we know from the first movie with Edward Norton he said "Hulk Smash" but now he's been aware for long enough to develop his mind and grow as a person. Korg is played by the director. In the first Thor Comic aliens came to earth and tried to invade, but Thor defeated them and they fled, believing him to be an example of the typical earthling. This is one of my favourite Marvel movies from the visuals to the soundtrack, setting and tone Taika Waititi did an amazing job. It oddly has a very 1980s feel to it mostly because off the amazing Synth soundtrack something I've listened to known stop. The Hulk part of this story is loosely based on the Planet Hulk comic where the Illuminati decide that Hulk was too dangerous to remain on Earth after Hulk to lose control and attack Las Vegas. They tricked Hulk into entering orbit to destroy a rogue satellite, and then used a shuttle to jettison him from the solar system. They intended for him to land on a peaceful planet, but the shuttle passes through a wormhole on its way with his shuttle crash landing on the planet Sakaar the same Sakaar you see in Thor Ragnarok. Oh should mention that the Marvel Illuminati is like the superhero community version of the United Nations but secretive a little different to the real life concept of the Illuminati, Iron Man 2 or 3 you could see an Illuminati app on Tony's Phone. The members are Doctor Strange representing Sorcerers, Professor Xavier representing the X-Men, Iron Man representing the Avengers, Namor the Sub-Mariner representing Atlantis, the Inhuman king Black Bolt representing The Inhumans, and Mr. Fantastic representing The Fantastic Four with Tony Stark being the founder of the group. These members all decided to sending Hulk into space along with other important choices within the Marvel universe. As Fox owned the movie rights to The X-Men/Mutants and Fantastic Four it was impossible for characters like Mr. Fantastic or Professor X to appear in the MCU which is why you haven't seen them yet. Disney did buy Fox like a few years ago so now they have the movie rights to these characters just a matter of how and when they'll be introduced in the MCU. Sony on the other hand made a deal with Disney/Marvel with Spider-Man which is how he was able to appear in Civil War and then his sole movies partnered by Sony and Marvel Studios. This is also why Scarlet Witch/Wanda is called an Enhanced Individual same with her brother Pietro who are both Mutants in the comics. They couldn't even refer to Pietro as Quicksilver (His comic Hero/Villain name) maybe the reason they just killed him off. Only reason Wanda and Pietro were allowed to be used was the fact both characters were Avengers in the comic's so there was a little legal grey area where Marvel owned the movie rights to the Avengers while Foxed own the movie rights to X-Men and Mutants but Wanda and Pietro were both X-men and Avengers. On the tower that houses the Grandmaster’s treasured champion, the Hulk, you can see the heads of previously unseen Marvel characters like Ares, Man-Thing, and Beta-Ray Bill serve as stone busts carved on the tower. Beta-Ray Bill is a very cool character and was even revealed to be the first one to hoist Mjolnir, much to everyone’s surprise. He also wears an outfit very similar to Thor's, hopefully we see him in Thor Love and Thunder as Taika Waititi is also directing the sequel as well. But yeah awesome movie remember being so hyped in 2017 we had Spider-Man Homecoming, Logan, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Wonder Woman a great year for Superhero films. The next film is Black Panther and then Avengers: Infinity War which I cannot wait for 100% recommend going in blind was such a great film can't believe it was all the way back in 2018.

This is the funniest Thor movie ever, in my opinion! I don't know if Taika can top the humor he put in this film when Thor: Love and Thunder comes out, but there will no doubt be some very hilarious Grandmaster scenes since Jeff Goldblum is reprising his role. So many memorable funny moments in this, from "I have been falling... for 30 minutes!", to Loki's reaction when the Hulk enters the arena, to Korg's dialogue, and, of course, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster. That role couldn't have been more perfectly cast. Also, there's a funny little deleted scene - though I use that term lightly since it's not really a deleted scene - where Yondu interrupts the execution. Someone else will explain it to you. I also recommend getting this on Blu-ray just for the director's commentary, as that option is sadly not on Disney+ (which is a missed opportunity for those who don't have this on Blu-ray).

So just for some interesting clarification on Skurge's guns...since they were from Dallas, two of the Cowboy's most revered players were Des Bryant and Troy Aikman...he named the guns after them! Just another level of depth to Taika's humor :) But, your comment on it being bittersweet is prescient because the ending scene with Thor and Loki takes us right to the beginning of 'Avengers: Infinity War' where even more tragedy occurs...

Adding the same chaotic comic-like energy to Thor became a masterstroke by Taika, the Shakespearean stuff was decent, but making Thor hilarious and relatable did wonders for his character, blending the movie between an action adventure movie and a buddy cop movie. The cinematography and music in the film are great too did I miss a joke because that's Denmark's flag... No no that's Surtur, Fire Giant of Muspelheim. The closest Marvel has to Satan is probably Mephisto. In Norse myth Surtur destroys Asgard during Ragnarok, having killed the norse god Freyr - who was without his trusted sword and had to fight with an antler, the giant wolf Hela has in the film is known in myth as Fenrir who is said to swallow Odin during Ragnarok too (Fenrir is also Loki's child in this), it's like a brutal season finale for the Norse pantheon, even Thor dies after walking 9 steps - one for each realm - having killed Jormungandr the world serpent. Loki meanwhile, after being free from his torture where he's bound by the entrails of his son and has a snake drip poison on his head that his wife tries to prevent by putting a bowl over his head, dies killing Heimdall, so yeah it's all a very brutal affair. The gladiator stuff is also not a Thor story, it's in fact a Hulk story, a precursor to World War Hulk where Hulk - having been banished from Earth by the Illuminati (group of Earth's most powerful superhero geniuses) due to his threat level - landed on Sakaar, became its champion as the 'Green Scar' and even started a family...until the Illuminati then blew up the planet, causing Hulk to attack each member as 'Worldbreaker Hulk' Korg is voiced by the director, Taika Waititi, everyone loves Korg. Hulk is very much his own identity, like Moon Knight the Hulk is an alter of Banner's DID. In MCU canon his time on Sakaar has meant he's not changed back to Banner so he's 'matured' a bit more. In the comics there's actually multiple Hulks within Banner, including Joe Fixit a grey Hulk who works as a gangster, Devil Hulk an immortal and self-loathing Hulk, Doc Green a genius Hulk and Guilt Hulk an evil Xenomorph looking Hulk. Green Scar and Worldbreaker are sometimes considered alters too. Jane 'broke up' with Thor because Natalie Portman left the MCU after Thor 2, creative differences and being unhappy that the film's director had changed were part of it.

What I love most about Thor's character evolution from Shakespearean to comedy is that it makes perfect sense that he'd stop talking like he was in a middle ages play the more time that he spent on Earth. It's damn near too good.

Yeah you missed the flag joke. Look at it again.

Also, check out the trailers for Thor: Love and Thunder. The beyond idiotic "MSHEU" crowd now say that they don't like Thor because he's not like the comics anymore. Well he was like the comics for the first 4 movies he was in and he was critically and universally panned. Now he's one of the most popular characters in the MCU.

My favourite thing about this film is the use of the Asgard's theme from Stargate SG1 in the music.

'Tell her she's dreaming' is a subtle callback to a classic line in a famous Australian comedy movie called The Castle. You should watch it!

Love how 'the god of Thunder' spends the first half of the movie being shocked at every opportunity. You should look for a short on you tube 'team Darryl grandmaster moves to earth' to see what happens to Goldblooms character after the movie. Very funny.

Taika Waititi also did the movie Jo Ho Rabbet which he was in also if watch The Mandalorian he played IG-11 which this film was done in Australia also they had alot improvised on the set. Hela was also another Aussie Cate Blanchett, Play was Matt Damon, Chis older brother Luke and Odin was Sam Neill
@jeffthompson96222 жыл бұрын
You recognized Matt Damon in the play that celebrated Loki. Luke Hemsworth played Thor and Sam Neil played Odin in that. So two actors from Jurassic Park are in this. Taika Waititi(this movie's director)voices Korg.

this is probably the best looking MCU movie ever, it's visually so vibrant and beautiful and creative. Plus the humor is so good even beyond the usual Marvel humor. It's in my top 3 MCU movies for a reason only second to Infinity War

16:25 "He's not gonna let him _win."_ Yeah. You've got to wonder just what's going through Grandmaster's mind, right now. I mean he has _never_ before even _envisioned_ having to step in to prevent someone from defeating his champion, because his champion is _Hulk!_

I love when you laugh, the close your eyes in mirth and press your head forward slightly and go ha ha ha ha, 3-4 times sharply, it's the cutest thing ever. Yeah this is a good marvel movie, not my favorite but definitely one of the best.

😆 Korg has to have the _most_ diplomatic tone and manner. I swear, you _cannot_ be angry when he's speaking. 😆

5:00 I have to know if there's a connection here. The book "The Long Dark Tea-time of the Soul" also had Odin living in a retirement home on Earth.

Ragnarok was such a breath of fresh air for the MCU franchise. Its directed by Taika Waititi who also voiced Korg 😊 The accent is a very stereotypical but animated Maori / Kiwi (new zealand) accent but with a strain to be like a polite Samoan....quite a typical way of speaking in New Zealand if youre a Pacific Islander, especially if youre brought up in a Christian family.

Modi Thorson was the son of Thor and the goddess of Death, Hela from the Ultimates timeline. The story of his conception and birth begins with the aftermath of an event called Ultimatum, which is also considered to be one of the worst events in comics ever.

My favorite easter egg in this movie is Skurge standing on the edge of the ship shooting down at all the undead soldiers! The shot replicates the cover of the original Doom game from 1993, where the Doom Marine is fighting off demons in the exact same pose. The actor playing Skurge, Karl Urban, played the Doom Marine in the 2005 movie adaptation of Doom.

Its hard to define if Thor's brother is good or evil due to his ... low-key personality Jane and Thor split because Thor used too much shampoo. With his shorter hair, he will need less and they can get together again.
