Makes me wonder if Celtic tribes live in Eastern Europe?
@firedrake94198 жыл бұрын
Before Migration period, they used to live here (i. e. at least until 1. century AD). But I guess this music has nothing to do with Celtic tribes ...
@halsawyer99307 жыл бұрын
The Celtic tribes were long gone before the bagpipe became popular in Europe. Although there were bagpipes in the Mediterranean in ancient times, they really became popular in the Middle Ages and the Irish and Scots (no doubt the "Celts" bee bee is thinking of) started playing them then along with the Germans, Slavic peoples and basically everyone else in Europe. Real, ancient Celts (1st Century AD) had no bagpipes. The Romans and Greeks had them, not the Celts, as far as we know. The idea that the bagpipe is a "Celtic" instrument is a myth invented in the last 30 to 40 years.

Well, in this part of what you call "Eastern Europe" , a cold war terminology full of serious prejudice, yes. What is now the Czech Republic was the core area where both Halstatt and Latene cultures originated, (check en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_languages) and there is a plenty of oppidums in especially the western part of the Czech Republic (Bohemia). Actually, the name Bohemia itslef originated from Boiohaemum, the land of Boii, the Celtic tribe (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bohemia). As Belguim originated from Belgii, or Helvetia (Switzerland) from Helvetii. Our country was therefore the real midle European country. Until now many rivers here have Celtic derived names (Agara / Ohre - the river of salmon, Isara/Jizera = flowing water, etc). Czech folk cutlure is close to Austrian of Bavarian, and you can see it also on the video, as the music is actually waltz (the song stating at 4:45) or polka rhytms (same as nearby Bavaria or Austria). For typical polka played with bagpipes see kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqWXh6N_qNVnrLc. I am however sure bagpipes here has no connection to any Celtic bagpipes...and evolved independently
